Let us know what kind of pickups they are when you change everything out. I imagine all of the replacements & improvements will make it sound even better, especially thru Pano’s nice amp.
Haha... I've also got a '65 Bandmaster, but I'm lazy and Andy is only five minutes away. ;)

I'll keep you all posted as I progress....

Well, I still haven't drilled out all the rusty screws, but I have a party gig this weekend, and Les Funk sounded better than my SG so that's what I'm playing. Paired with an AC15C1 (oh hey, I got an AC15!), it rips! Everyone was saying how good I sounded. Now I just have to remember what I'm doing now the gear sounds good. :fp:

Congrats! I have the same, also 1977, bought in a similar manner. Mine has the original Nashville and stop tailpiece and is even more worn. The binding has turned orange/brown. I'll try to upload pics tomorrow :)

I had it refretted and the Nashville had to be replaced, but once done, a fantastic guitar.

How heavy is yours? Mine is in the 10 lb range.

I think I need to replace just one fret, and I think an ABR-1 and aluminum stoptail are in the Funk's future, but for now I'm just playing the heck out of it as is. :)

Mine is heavy as well. Maybe a little lighter than my 1980 custom. I never put it on a scale.

The refret was mandatory on mine, the fret were really low and worn. So I went for Jescar 47104 and I think I never played the 1980 again after that. The '77 feels and sounds better (I swapped the pickups though).

I took some pictures but I just changed phone as the older one died yesterday, and I haven't found how to upload yet. Maybe in the evening.

By the way, as for dating, I think there weren't any standard in 1972, unless it's a deluxe rerouted with a replacement truss rod cover, which seems unlikely. I think you have the date right. If the pickups are original, there should be an ink stamp with the date. Mine were "Nov 1977".

Right- I think that by 1977 they were making Standards again as special orders for certain music stores that were requesting Les Pauls "like how they used to make them".
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

Here are pictures of mine. Not great quality but you get the idea :

BTW, these 70's maple necks tend to wear to a much smoother feel than the usual mahogany Gibson necks, I love that!
