Can you help me find a metal axe for 4-500 ?

For guitars of the straight waisted variety (or reverse offset).

I bet that thing really gives a convincing 3rd dimension to a “Heeeerre’s JOHNNY!!!” impression!

LTD is a brand I’ve never played (which there are probably many that I haven’t), but I should try to check one of them out sometime. Never really heard much about them, good or bad, so it seems like a definite sleeper (to me, at least).

That model seems very BC Rich, but a lot of companies have picked up their styles and ran with them over the years.
To be honest, I had never laid hands on an LTD until I took a gamble on my bass. It was the best feature set at the price for a 6er, or for double the price for that matter.

I was so taken aback by its quality that I specifically went to my local store to try the Viper when I saw it on their site. I figured I can recup half the cost just by selling the EMGs, as I'm not into them. But man did it knock my socks off for a $200 guitar.

I agree that the above body is very BC Rich. They have a couple of other original offset shapes that aren't bad. I'm partial to the Viper, because it's just an offset SG.

Sorry for all the purple, I love interesting finishes and there aren't enough purple guitars in the world.

They also do a bunch of super strats, telecasters, Les Pauls, firebirds, and other common body shapes, but I like their original offsets the most (even the pointy metal one).

As for the OP, I'm glad you found a good deal on a Kramer. Can't argue with that price!

Haha, I hear ya. I don’t have any purple guitars, but I did buy my girlfriend (at the time) a purple acoustic guitar a few years ago.

I’ve also bought a few purple pedals, one I had done in that color, and a couple that just come that way, like the DC-2w.

Didn’t see the post about the Barretta, some of those were really cool when I played them years ago. Glad you’re happy with it.

I’d love to nab a Charvel Pro Mod but I don’t want a Floyd Rose trem.
Here's a hardtail for sale locally to me. Looks pretty legit.

Seriously, the neck is just exquisite. Even the stock gun is quite nice and balanced.
It goes out of tune a lot when I divebomb the trem, so I think some graphite is in order for the nutslot.
I’d imagine that’s it- the nut is cheap black plastic (but it seems well-cut). Tuners seem stable too. 8)

All I want to do is grab a fixed bridge and say bye-bye to this tremolo nonsense. Any tips ?

Now I have $ to grab a MXR 5150 pedal
The real answer here is a Metal Zone.
I thought that mentioning that pedal was blasphemy on any musician’s forum...

Guessing you’re joking but really, I’ve never played one. A friend had one years ago, and he didn’t like it. Said it sounds like different versions of the same thing at any setting, and he said there are lots of different settings with all the stacked knobs.

I would love to take a Pinnacle for a ride one day, I’ve read that it’s good at the old EVH sound, but also has other very usable sounds.

This thing is so awesome. Grab one while you can !

Since I plan on blocking the trem I figure I can just NutSauce the nut & saddles and get some affordable Hipshot tuners.

Mostly joking, but it’s not that bad. I’ve never found a pedal that does the thrash metal stack sound convincingly, and the metal zone is no exception.

But, it has a ton of gain on tap and a powerful eq. It does a good wall of sound tone if you want it too, as well as good for bedroom metal practice. Heck, if you need a buffer on your board it’s a good cheap option used.

I have the HM-2, HM-3 and the Metal Zone, and the zone is the one I use the least, the gains too smooth for my taste. But I don’t see any reason to rip on it over something like the Metal Muff, which is a very similar pedal.

Ola Englund (YouTube) posted a demo using the Metal Zone straight into the power amp (bypassing pre,) and it sounded perfect for metal - then he plugged it into the preamp of the same amp and it was basically garbage :D

I think I’ve seen that video, or part of it, at least.

He was highly impressed with it, I didn’t remember that it was about going direct into a poweramp, but that’s interesting, since that’s a kind of old pedal, and Boss doesn’t (or didn’t used to) do “amp in a box” or actual preamp pedals.

I was only ripping on it because of all of the hate that I’ve read all over the place about it. I’ve never even used one.

The pedal’s manual states to plug it in the front of the amp, so Ola definitely was out of the box :) No clue how the designers tested it or what setup it was built ‘for’ - It was slightly later than the release of the Recto, so it’s hard to assume what the designers were aiming at.

I doubt it was the super-tight idiom we call ‘modern,’ but the result seemed to be a pedal that when set optimally (through its diverse array of worse settings,) produced white noise, covered in phlegm.

I think it’s probably a coincidence it sounds so good through the power amp - and a coincidence the sound of metal that is now fashionable is the sound of doing that; but a lot of pedals actually do sound good/better used as preamps.

Yeah, Boss could be really hit or miss, and had a bad habit of either discontinuing or “improving” a lot of their better pedals (PN-2, Slow Gear, PS-3...among others).

White noise and phlem, and lots and lots of useless settings would probably a good description of using it as just a regular pedal, from what my friend told me.

Different strokes for different folks, and various ways to use things, but I think he got it because he saw it/read about it being on one of Kevin Shields’ notorious boards.
