Thread to predict currently expensive stuff that will be worth f*ck all eventually

For guitars of the straight waisted variety (or reverse offset).

Everything.

Line 6 stuff. Anything you’d describe as “pretty close” or “good enough”

I think some of the Behringer synth / drum machine copies could go up in price. If they survive.

That said, with almost everything being built with tiny circuit boards and nothing being repairable, I’m not sure how much of the current latest and greatest will still be functional a decade (or two or three) from now.

Won't happen soon but i honestly think valve amps are going to become abandonware ar some point.

Lots of new guitarists are switching to kempers and all, and i don't know if the demand for valves will justify jj, ehx, or whoever continuing production in like 20 years time.

I feel like one of those "the end is nigh" weirdos

I think a lot of the higher priced (close to a grand) Chinese and Indonesian guitars we’re seeing will likely not do well.

A lot of boutique pedals that came out within the last 10 years or so have already deprecated by a lot. Some haven’t.

You have a lot of new pedals coming in the market at very high prices. But for the most part I think the average price of pedals on the used market will keep going down and eventually level out.

Anything that relies on an external app for its features now. In 5 years time the manufacturer (if they still exist) will have moved onto the latest devices and long since stopped upgrading old apps to run on the latest hardware. Those amps/processors/etc will be like something that relies on a long-dead version of Windows is now. Dead in the water.

I think the interesting question is around tube amps.

Add to that anything that relies on drivers to enable your computer to 'see' it. I've lost two expensive audio interfaces to operating system updates so far (actually still hoping a friend can get #2 working again with some coding that's beyond my meagre abilities).

By extension, a lot of studio hardware has fallen off a cliff-edge in terms of resale value, though some is going the other way. Hardware rack samplers and MIDI sound modules are prime examples that might become next to impossible to give away in the future.

Yep, once clean drinking water becomes the currency that '59 Les Paul 'burst someone murdered its previous owner for might suddenly look a lot less valuable.

The Yamaha Magicstomp, for example, fell into the victim of software / interface / lack of manufacturer support category. (And is heavy for a pedal).
I love the Eventide H9 but I don't see using it (/being able to use it) in 20 years...
