Any of you still rockin' a Godin SD???

I don't have an SD, but I sure do like my Radiator. Every time I play it, I think, "what a fun little guitar!"

Cool stuff... I read somewhere they went to 22 frets so as to get a better spacing on the pickups as things were cramped on the 24 fret... But that could just be a rumour.

Wonder how mine is routed under the guard?

The SG feel is probably because it's a Gibson scale 24.75"... Coming from 36" basses, it's a bit tight for me if I want to go up the neck... So I just don't learn how to solo

The Variax always seemed like it would unseat a lot of stuff when I first heard of it, but don't see them often in my circles, and have never played one... You like the guitar I take it??

I've had it for just over a week.
It's comfortable to play alright.
The guitar sounds are *just there* enough to fake the sound.
The acoustic sounds are actually impressive.
The Rickenbacker 12 strings aren't quite there though.
The banjo, you need to crank reverb on your amp to be able to fake it.
the sitar is a joke.
I don't have much experience with jazz boxes, resonators, gretch, or epi. casino to comment, not bad sounding though.

for the $265 I paid, I think it's going to stick around in my house for a while
and I won't be able to justify getting another guitar unless it does something unique to this and my other guitars.

The 2 Godin Radiators I had were great though, those are like a Poor Man's Rickenbacker.
And the SD I tried was pretty fine too.

That's a really cool Godin you have there Maggie! I like that the headstock and body seem to all jive a bit more than the SD.

The bass is quite nice too. A nice combo of instruments there.

The name of the guitar escapes me,

there's a 3 pickup Radiator style
I remember it had a sparkle finish, looked something like a Gretsch

I always wondered what the construction of those singlecoils on the Radiator looked like under those covers. I remember when they came out, I thought the full-top pickguard was a pretty neat idea.

Originally, they had toaster covers, but those got sued out of production. They remind me of Rick hi-gains.

That just adds to the mystery for me. Hi-gains have bar magnets and screw polepieces, while toasters have rod magnet polepieces. To fit in a toaster case, they'd either have to be bar magnets with steel slugs, or magnetic polepieces.

And Godin advertised these as "low-noise singlecoils" if I recall correctly. So maybe they're internally shielded, or use a larger magnet and smaller coil, which would be easier to do with a bar magnet and slugs, so maybe that's what they are (which would explain why they sound like hi-gains).

Man, I wish I found Godins more visually appealing.

They're not very high output, but they sound really good. You know, Lollar does a set that looks like 'em.
