So cool.
Nerd! ;)

(actually I used to hang with a group of friends that would have "Rush Fest" on Bastille Day - barbecuing and listening to Rush all day (chronologically of course).  Now there's a bunch of nerds!)

On topic, my uncle had the Strat-style Roland synth guitar.  I remember it weighing about a million pounds, I can only imagine the weight of the LP! :o

It say's this thing weighs 4.8KG,  that's 10.58 pounds. Not too bad, only about 2 pounds more than your average jazzmaster. One thing that probably kept the weight down is the television sized head unit and the VCR sized foot controller that you had to carry around with it.

Speaking of heavy electronic behemouths, I have always wanted a Guitorgan. It's a hollowed out univox, the frets are diced up, and when each string presses on the fret board it completes a circuit which plays a particular organ sound. It output both the organ sound and the guitar sound. Later models had angled frets to allow for bending the strings which was cool, because the organ stayed on the same note, and you could ad vibrato through the guitar.

I played one at one of the Guitar stores in Hollywood, I can't remember if it was Voltage guitars or what, but the organ part didn't work so I never even plugged it in. It felt like a really heavy Univox. My friend gave me a stack of old Guitar Player magazines and in the Oct 93 issue there is a good column on them by Teisco Del Rey. The article is called "High Tech Or Pure Dreck? The Guitorgan VS. Roland's GR-700".  But it sounds just like an organ, because that's what it is, an organ crammed into a guitar. I think the only thing that would really suck is you have no right hand technique. Notes are generated by pushing the left hand down, but there are no tracking errors or lag time usually associated with synth guitars.

I think Sealed with a kiss starts out with the guitorgan.

I remember David Byrne playing one of those Rolands with the 'Heads.  Almost made me want one....
