It's a Silvertone Mosrite copy from the early 70s (actually made by Teisco, but with the Silvertone name on it, as was their wont). It's got no tailpiece, but I have a spare bigsby kicking about, so I'm in. It was US $130.

It's not about the gear! It's about you, your hands, your imagination, your feelings.

I understand it's pretty good. I checked Harmony Central for reviews, and there were four of them. The reviews came out as follows:

Features: 9.0
Sound: 8.3
Action, Fit, & Finish: 7.0
Reliability/Durability: 9.0
Overall Rating: 9.3

Handily, at least one of those reviewers knew his stuff quite well - there's the usual nerdlike attention to detail that we're all so familiar with  ;D, banging on about tone caps and so on, which gave me a good feeling about the reliability of the reviews.

Can't wait for it to arrive - I've got a Bigsby B5 with this guitar's name on it  ;)

that looks great, you'll be better off tuning-wise with the Bigsby than with the stock trem anyway!

Very cool .. I like how the middle and neck pickups look like they've got loose and are going for a walk.

I know, what are the chances of finding a B5 with "Mental Japanese Silvertone Mosrite Copy" embossed on the tailpiece? Incredible.

I know you love this guitar, but it looks like Frankenstein designed it.

Of course it is beautiful. Congrats.

trem rout options

Post by idiotbear » Fri Mar 23, 2007 11:49 am

OK, so this finally arrived yesterday. It looks way cool, though the guard is a little bashed up. I might buy a guard blank and cut a new one, but I won't even think about that until I've heard how the pups sound - if I have to swap them out, it'll probably mean re-routing, 'cos the existing pups aren't shaped much like anything else. I wanna keep it as close to stock as I can though, despite its cheapness. I suspect it's gonna sound very cool.

The only thing bugging me now is how to fill the existing circular trem rout. What's the best way to fill a hole like that? It's slap bang in the middle of the Bigsby, so is fully visible... :-\ :-\ Any thoughts?
