I could use a really good Strat. I like the one I have okay, but I want something like this:

I really love maple board black strats. Ed O'Brien has one which I've always loved:

I really, really like Strats in general. Just pure class. Offsets win for me on sound, comfort and playability, but there's nothing wrong with a good strat. Apart from Fat Strats, which are crap.

I had a really early Japan with that colour combo. Looks really great, but it sounded crap IMO.
I put a P90 in the bridge - still sounded boring.
Traded it for a 62 JM - never looked back.

As said - there are really great looking Strats out there, but I can't get one to sound like I want my guitars to sound...and I keep hitting that f**king knob..... :P
Someone knows where I can find the nearest woodchipper to throw my pieces of junk into?

This is great looking

I dunno, to me that looks like any number of strats I've seen thousands of times... (no offense if that's yours)

But I guess one thing about strats is that their ubiquity means there's less of a purist attitude about them, and some of the wackier strat designs are among my favorites. I still kinda like the Aerodyne series, and the paisley strats. I also do like the red burst finish, which is what I have (forget what that finish is actually called).

Lovely range of colours. Thems be some nice Strats sir, especially the red/green/blue ones at the end.

I'm guessing all of those are worn from being played a lot?

Thanks... all but the top one, and the surf green one are Danocasters. The top one (with the vintage pinup decal) was owned by Mike Butler of the Boxmasters (Billy Bob Thorton's Band) and toured the USA for several years as his main axe...so the playwear is real, (if not my own!) It was signed/drawn on by Billy Gibbons when he sat in with them at a show in Texas. Billy commented that it was a great sounding strat, and I agree. I actually built the Surf Green one myself, and it has yet to get a mark on it.

Wow, I see what people mean when they say he does great work. That really does look like several hundred days on the road, playing every night kind of wear.

Hey I've heard of BBT. I do believe one of my friends (an excellent player better than myself I must admit) is a fan. And your guitar being played by Billy? That's fucking cool. Love that guy.

This man:
Image
(Simon Neil of Biffy Clyro)

did a lot to make me rethink strats. I kinda pushed them aside as the guitar EVERYONE had, whether it was a knock-off or a real Fender. And I always wanted a humbucker in a guitar before, but now I have to say there's not many tones I like more than the 4th position, with the middle and bridge pickups out of phase with each other (i think thats the term).

That said, I don't think I've ever fallen out of love with a good strat neck sound (even if that sound is emulated in a different guitar). It just sounds right to me. I've never seemed to like any other pickup in the neck than a strat-style single coil, and I suppose that's a pretty big statement in love of 'the guitar EVERYONE has'.

I've wanted one of the Classic Player 60s strats for sooo long. The sonic blue is lovely, and the mint green pickguard works very well. Although the danocaster aged strats posted earlier make this look like a fucking joke tbh:

I love those Classic Players... the Sonic Blue with green gaurd looks perfect on them. Don't knock it man, that's a sweet Stratocaster!

I'm glad there are a lot of guitar players pursuing technique as diligently as they possibly can, it leaves this whole other area open to people like me.

here's mine, built from parts...plays like a dream and sounds great too! Just not into the body style, but I have come to like the trem more and more...even though my jazzmaster still reigns supreme. I've tried to sell this one here and locally with absolutely no interest so it looks like I'm keepin it for now!
