Re: Fender Coronado
There's a shop here in Portland, OR that has a mint Coronado II in Antigua. They keep it up on the wall and don't let anybody play it, because it's apparently part of some guys' private collection. All I have to say about it is:

Re: Fender Coronado
I used to have a Sunburst Coronado, and I loved the looks, but the pickups and bridge were total crap. Sold it.

Hey Fuzz_King,
Which bridge did you have? And which pickup type?

Re: Fender Coronado
that was just stock stuff.
I think the PUs were DeArmonds on all Coronados. They sounded kind of anaemic.
The bridge wasnt fixed, it was just held down by the strings, it would 1) move all the time and
2) when re-stringing, you'd have to find the proper pos. again (unless you'd tape it to the body
or mark the exact position or do something that involved a drill and a set of screws).
still, the looks were

Re: Fender Coronado
There were two types of pups. The earlier type was all chrome w/ Fender engraved on the cover. This type is generally considered to be warmer in sound than the second type.
The second type, introduced early to mid '67, was black w/ chrome ring.
Did you have the trem unit w/ the trem bridge? The trem bridge functions very similar to the Jag/Jm bridge in that it tilts with the strings as the trem is engaged. You don't have a trem-lock, but the range is similar.
As far as losing the bridge location, just change one string at a time.

Re: Fender Coronado
These were the black/chrome pups. I think it was a 68/69 model.
Thanks for the hint on changing one string at a time, I'd never have figured that out...
No seriously, it was just too much of a hassle. I'm just done with post '65 Fenders.
But it looked great

Re: Fender Coronado
I remember in Kilbey's dark days he ended up selling a load of his beautiful guitars from a fan website to pay for medical expenses...seems to have come out the other end with flying colors though...last few albums have been pretty fantastic. Damn I absolutely love that band.mezcalhead wrote: Yep, he used to play one of those. Had a Bass VI for a while as well, now usually plays a Jazz bass ..

I think I know the website to which you refer, also.

Re: Fender Coronado
There's a couple of shops in Portland that do that...Apple and Portland Music come to mind. It's painful. But if you owned them, wouldn't you want to play them? With the prices these trade for, I suppose they are "investments", but it's such an abstract concept to me. I suppose that's why I have no savingsstereordinary wrote: There's a shop here in Portland, OR that has a mint Coronado II in Antigua. But perhaps why I'm reasonably happy?

Re: Fender Coronado
I've never seen one in person, but they look cool for the sake of it being a Fender semi-hollow. But I don't think I'd own one, I'd rather have a Casino or (surprisingly) one of the Ibanez Artcore hollowbodies. They have a silver metallic that plays awesome at my local Guitar Center...and probably every Guitar Center in the land.
