Needs some TLC and cleaning still, but here's Fudge.

A loveable Mutt from the 80s, homebrew quartersawn ash (methinks) body, toploader bridge, Maxon Pickups, neck probably from a lawsuit strat. Had a really dodgy Fender decal, which I've removed, and slightly regret doing so. :fp:
damn, I like Fudge
This guy's a monster if you give him a nudge:

an ugly mutt, now a dedicated slide guitar.

-mystery (probably MIJ) body, badly relic'd :-X
-allparts neck finished by OSG's own @rexter
-mojo goldfoil
-mystery bridge pickup (probably some kind of fender - flat 50s? copper baseplate, flat poles, black/yellow wires, needed phase reversal to work with the foil)
-gotoh bridge

This one is affectionately known as “the mongrel”.

It was slapped together because i wanted a guitar to take on holidays several years ago, and didn’t want to risk taking anything too nice.

I bought the neck and body separately off ebay, then added some randomly selected pickups and hardware i had spare. I expected it to be ok, but was pleasantly surprised when it turned out to be far more than “ok”. It didn’t require much setting up or anything - it was one of those rare moments where everything felt perfect right from the start.

Not too pretty to look at, but plays and sounds amazing.

Fender Mex Tele body
Fender Mex Strat neck
SD “Vintage Broadcaster” and “Jazz” pickups.

My Affinity. It started life as a BSB. This was inspired by an LPB Mustang Special I had briefly. It was my first refin attempt so the finish is a bit rough and although I did a good job blocking the old control route you can still see it in certain light. (you can't feel it though) Tinted and lacquered the neck, white Cali buttons to finish it off. Started out with rails but changed back to SC.

Presenting to the tribunal; should it live or die?

I raped it for parts to finish my Sunmaster project but wound up with enough of the cadaverous remnants and spare shit to make it into at least a testbed (first order of business - use it to test several crappy Squier/MIJ vibrato pivots I need to file down to get working and possibly sell as operating units.)

That said, here’s what I’d need to do to get this actually playing properly IF that becomes my desire:
  • Relocate the freaking nut (yep- it’s several mm off/doesn’t intotante, thank you cheap Chinese labor; that said all the frets are positioned correct)
  • Probably shove humbuckers and cheap pots under the covers/plate (I have a JB/Jazz on hand if those aren’t too good
  • Random nuts and bolts etc.
In the meantime you can gawk at the goofy parts: aforementioned $30 Chinese faulty neck and cheap $10 tuners, Squier bridge that actually isn’t terrible, one VM cover/one that feels like paper for some reason, Squier vibrato/faulty pivot won’t stay in tune. Anyone love it enough to think it deserves a chance?

I might try a zero fret - or else just cut a new slot :)

I'll be posting a few true "Monster" Tele builds here shortly. Santa was VERY good to me this year.

A killer 3lb 5oz figured Swamp Ash Musikraft body - hollow, no F-hole, and a killer profile Musikraft Tele neck. TV Jones Duo-Tron in the neck and a Dimarzio Fast Track T in the bridge.

The second is also a Musikraft 3lb 5oz highly figured Swamp Ash hollow Tele body, but with a beautiful white Korina top. That'll get a pair of Bare Knuckles Riff Raff humbuckers.

I've got the finish picked out for the first one, as that's a special tribute project for somebody going through a rough time. The finish on the second one is still undecided...it'll be a shame to cover up that Korina...

Seems like a while since anyone posted a monster tele, so here's my monster tele:

Fender Mexico neck, double-bound turquoise sparkle body and pickguard off eBay (HZ Guitars in the UK), Wilkinson bridge, Tonerider bridge pickup, can't remember where I got the humbucker.

The brass is cool, and I'm surprised at how well made it is. It just needs a couple of frets leveled.

I really like that Hagström-inspired bridge. How are the pickups?
