Did you guys buy a guitar as a present to yourself when you hit 30?

For guitars of the straight waisted variety (or reverse offset).

So when my bike broke, and with a baby on the way,  I had to sell the jag to buy a new bike and a cheaper guit. Still...

Go for it, buy yourself something nice.
that's a sad story...
It's not that sad - babies are cool. And before you know it, you're starting to say "we need a 22.5" scale guitar in the house for our son/daughter". Perfectly legit.  :P
It worked for me!  Bu then i totally blew the whole scam by selling it to Aug.  The I totally blew it again by selling another one to Nick D.  Yes, there was a very brief period in my career where i had 2 itsy bitsy duo sonics.
I prefer their older stuff.

I did too, a Super Sweet First Act guitar (the Westerberg Model that I reviewed on here), it was pretty much all I could afford since I quit my job. Ok so my First Act's not super sweet, but hey turning 30 is an excuse to buy something frivolous and lets face it, when you already have several guitars one more is frivolous. It's a great excuse. I had the money saved to get something nicer, I wanted a Jag, but I needed to make some career changes before I lost my soul.
Why should we buy postage stamps? We can make our own.

I've got my 30th present guitar picked out. It's got to be a '52 AVRI Telecaster in butterscotch...

not at 30 -- i didn't have any money that year. but six years later when my parents died, i bought my first real guitar, my Ric 360. it wasn't a "present to self" obviously, given the circumstances, more a way to take my mind off the loss and start living again. it helped.

Not overly expensive, but my current JM is what I bought for my 30th. It's my wife that reminds me to think of myself first sometimes, so and that aspect I can imagine 40 may see myself get a really great guitar. Having 2 kids with a third on the way make you think through some purchases a little more, which has worked out to my benefit. Besides, with my limited free time a really great guitar would just go to waste. So waiting till 40 means more money and more time - a dangerous but lovely combination.
