Cool! Thanks for the link. I've been trying to find comps, but they're hard to find. That one is "only" 3K. Others I've seen are listed for 5K. But who knows what they actually sell for. Maybe that one has been for sale for some time...dinosaur wrote: Did you see this listed today?

Mines from the first year, don't know if that truly affects value or not. I would think it would, but just don't know enough about these. I do know that there's alot of hype every time I see one advertised. Maybe I should start mine at $2900 and just see what it brings?

So you're auctioning it? I dunno, if notmany people are in the market for a guitar that price you might not get many bidders, and it might end up just going for $2900, if that's okay with you. Of course, nobody's gonna buy it because it has icky gold hardware

This IS a bad time to sell a guitar, especially a high-priced one, right before the holidays. Maybe I should wait.
It's still a nice profit at $2900, but $3500 (+) would be even better...

thats a killer find! It seems to me that the longer you wait, the more itll sell for. Even just taking the first couple years of 57 ri strats, they jumped up a TON in the past 2 years, I could get em for 600 bucks all day 2 years ago, now I cant find one for less than $1800...
I suppose it really depends on how quickly you need your money back out of it. You can always set a reserve though, just to see what itll really bring.

What pickups are in there?
Sorry if this was answered, I'm very tired and I've already looked through this thread and didn't find anything.

Ya know.... I don't know! But they sound very full and fat. They're black bobbins with no markings. I've tried to find out on the web, and drew a blank.
I like them, whatever they are!

Re: UNBELIEVABLE! (pawn shop find) L@@K!
Could they possibly be Fender Custom Shop 54's?
Would make sense considering the guitar, but who knows!
I've heard good things about the pickups in that mary kay and the custom shop 54's and I'm interested in putting something nice and vintage sounding in a strat I have lying around.
How's the neck pickup sound when clean with reverb?
That's basically all I use, neck pickups...

Could be, I don't know. I'm not familiar with the selection they offered back then.
They sound very nice clean... especially drenched in reverb.

I'm going on holiday to Florida soon, where about were those Pawn shops in Orlando? Easy to get to by bus?

The ones I went to are all on State Road 50 (Colonial Dr.), east of downtown, and SR 436 (Semoran Blvd). Colonial is a major east-west route through Orlando, and Semoran is a major north-south corridor. Both should be on the bus route, AFAIK.Amber wrote: I'm going on holiday to Florida soon, where about were those Pawn shops in Orlando? Easy to get to by bus?
When you are headed east on Colonial there's two shops before you get to Semoran. Make a right on Semoran (south towards the airport), and there's 3 - 4 shops, spread out, on both sides of the road. Make a U-turn and head back up to Colonial again and go right (east). There's like 3-4 more shops scattered about on both sides as you head east. Flip a u-turn and head back the way you came. I usually spot them on the other side and keep them in mind... go all the way one direction hitting the ones on that side, then head back and hit theones on the other side. The traffic is pretty bad and it sucks to keep crossing back and forth. That side of Orlando is not especially scary... but it's not "nice" either. Kind of junky... just where you might expect alot of pawn shops! ;)
There's many other pawn shops, I'm sure. But that's a little route I'm familiar with.
There's also a big Sam Ash new gear store, on the right side (in a plaza) before you reach Semoran (and before the pawn shops). Those are pretty much along the lines of Guitar Center.
Orlando also has many gear stores and a few vintage places. I don't get over there very often, so I can't say exactly where they are.

Never been to Downtown Orlando before. Not renting a car either. Orlando is full or bad British drivers it seems! I drove around all of Cali fine but something about Orlando puts me off. Plus being 23 means I pay an under 25 daily fee. Did you notice many lefties?
I remember there being a shop on I-Drive that wasn't bad. I'm looking forward to checking out offsets at Hard Rock. Shame they got rid of the Hard Rock vault a few years ago.

That's beautiful guitar even though 1) the Strat is only my 5th favorite Fender and 2) I'm not a big fan of the pin-up decals. Still, damn nice score. Congrats.
