Eastwood Guitars
Just wondering if anyone out there has had any experience playing some of these ("reissue") guitars found at http://www.eastwoodguitars.com/
It may be a fleeting attraction, but I've been GASing for the "Ichiban" and "Hi-Flyer" models as of late.

i played a hi-flyer in a store a while ago. it felt pretty good, much better than i had expected. it definitely seemed like it was worth the $400.

Mike's fantastic to deal with, but I was less than impressed by the Ramones Hi-Flyer I bought from him. I would, however, buy from him again, but I'd get a MIK model (like the Ichiban, or the new JR Elite) over a MIC model like the Hi Flyer.

I've played the Mosrite knock-off, which I think is different than their Hi-Flyer, and I thought it was great for the money. I was surprised how well the pickups sounded and it definitely felt solid.

Re: Eastwood Guitars
+1 on that- it took about $150 worth of work to get my Hi-Fyler playable and it was a real boatanchor, especially for a basswood-bodied guitar.benecol wrote: Mike's fantastic to deal with, but I was less than impressed by the Ramones Hi-Flyer I bought from him. Stick with the MIK stuf and you'll do a lot better. I've been mightily tempted by the Savannah and the other semi-hollow; they've got a good early Neil Young/Velvets vibe happening.

Oh yeah, I have serious GAS for a Savannah. In black? Hell yes. Are those MIK?

Re: Eastwood Guitars
If I ever got a bass it would be some kind of Mosrite style one. In blue. Pretty much identical to Dave Alexander's in fact. But I'd imagine made in Korea/Japan/China whatever would need a pickup upgrade...if that is the case, where exactly would you get replacement Bass P90s for Mosrite style, they can't be that common.
Don't you know that's sinful boy?

I really like the Stormbird and Saturn 63. Always liked the non-reverse Firebirds. I am very weary of buying a Chinese made guitar as I know there will probably be a number of upgrades involved. I've never seen an Eastwood guitar in person so I guess I should reserve my opinion on quality till I have. Will Sergeant has a Saturn 63. That's a pretty awesome endorsement. Apparently he played it on the Bunnymen's tour this summer.

I think Sergeant has an original Saturn. But maybe an Eastwood, too?tremolite wrote: I really like the Stormbird and Saturn 63. Always liked the non-reverse Firebirds. How come you guys don't have access to the MIC stuff? Wouldn't those models be just a suitable for export?

Re: Eastwood Guitars
My mistake; I meant to write "MIK" and I've subsequently realized that some models are MIC and others MIK...for some reason I assumed that ALL of the models could be either MIC or MIK...if that makes any sense at all.benecol wrote: How do you mean?
