The Don Wilson Jazzmaster

Post by johnm » Tue Jan 22, 2008 5:45 pm

I know that the black Ventures CIJ JM was part of the 3-guitar set that Fender sold in the 90s.

But does anyone have info on the "Don Wilson" JM that was MIJ?  I never heard of this model.

I think He's refering to the Black "The Ventures" MIJ Jazzmaster. It came stock with SD SJM-1 Pick ups and a Custom Pickguard that had a "The Ventures" Inscription and the Rythem cuircuit was also deleted on these, the "sharkfin" top on the pickguard was rounded of because of this.
Theu were alimeted edition. Perhaps indeed the "35 anniverary".
They seam to fetch some money these days, but appart from the mentioned non stock pu's and different pickguard, they are MIJ guitars.

No, I'm not referring to the black Fender Ventures JM.

This is a sunburst model.  Here's the link to it.

Hmm. Just noticed that it doesn't appear to be a Fender. I thought it was a JM at 1st glance, but I guess not.

The guitar in question was made in Japan in 1994 by a Japanese luthier who's name is S. Takahashi, only 35 were made, maybe Saki Takahashi a luthier from Nagano, Japan. it is not a Fender Jazzmaster and is not a Wilson Bros. Guitar. I just bought one. It appears a couple of people have the 1996 Fender 50th Anniversary Ventures model Jazzmaster confused with this one. I have a set of the 96 Ventures model Guitars (JM, Strat and Jazz Bass) I also own a 50th Anniversary Fender of Japan Nokie Edwards Tele and 2004 Gerry McGee model strat. This model of Jazzmaster is a rare and a collectible item, I am going to ask Tim Wilson and Don Wilson if this guitar was an authorized issue approved by The Ventures. I didn't want it to get away on ebay so bought it. The 1966 JM Don Wilson played for years and was in the RRHOF in Cleveland was auctioned last year by Don and sold to an un-disclosed buyer for $75,000 US. I also own several Wilson Bros. models including the first production model of the new USA Custom model and several Ventures Aria model guitars and basses, a 91 Don Wilson model was Don's the first one, The Gerry McGee trial model natural finish, 2000 Aria DF01, 2000 Bass that was the first and Bob Bogle's, a set of 2001 Arias one was Don's and the other Bob Bogle's Bass both Candy Apple and both played on the Surfing to Baja Cruise in 2003.
I'm also on UF2 under a different name, and worked in Japan for 4 years as a US Army Civilian 2007-2011, at Camp Zama. Johnm, probably knows who I am from that descripter. Just wondered across this site and saw this item posted and decided to join and chime in. I own 52 guitars and basses 21 are Ventures models, that includes a 64 Sunburst Mosrite. I am looking for a 91 Aria Bob Bogle Bass, I have not had any luck thus far, none of the Ventures have one, Yumi Bogle may but, I will not ask her to sell it. Those models are very rare.
