Andy Shauf (folk-ish music, Canadian)

Post by StevenO » Mon Nov 09, 2015 1:31 pm

So, David is always talking about new music and I guess I'll give a shout out to a great young Canadian artist writing, recording and performing everything himself. He's a great writer and storyteller whom I have no connection to, personally, but love his music.

Here's his new album for stream (please buy, if you like it):

His latest single, not included on the album:

His bandcamp:

And a few live videos:

Hope everyone enjoys him! Puts on a great live show as well.

Andy Shauf is great! I've a lot of love for the new record, Wendell Walker and Hometown Hero are two amazing songs.

We've got a Record Club Listening Party set up in a couple weeks with some friends of ours and I've got everyone listening to The Bearer of Bad News. I can't wait to hear what everyone thinks of it.

I love this album. :-*

I really like it too! I've bought a few of his other EPs too, but I like his newer stuff because I feel like he's really found a great sound for himself. Nothing super unique or original, but I also couldn't give a rats ass about that. I like great songs and he's doing that very well.

I'm digging his new album quite a bit more than any of his earlier stuff. We're actually from the same town! Which I don't get to say ever haha. We have lots of great talent but not too many people get noticed. It's nice to see him doing well!

It's a great song! Took me awhile to warm up to it, but then one day I heard on the local radio and it clicked in my head. Good little catchy pop song. :)

I love it! A bit of a happier, less introverted sound for him, but really well done.

So it's been almost a year since I made this thread, and I still love him. Just saw him last night, and on Tuesday. Both nights were incredible. Just a ridiculously talented guy and his band is perfect.

This guy deserves all the praise he gets.

Saw him open up for case/lang/viers over the summer and hated it. Thought it was fucking boring and couldn't understand what he was singing at all. A few folks recommended the album to me independently from one another and "The Party" made a few year-end lists, so I went back to it...

...aaaand it's pretty much all I've been listening to for the past two months. Nothing else even makes sense anymore. I haven't been this bowled over by an album (two albums, really) in I-don't-even-know how long. GAH. SO GOOD.

I love the guy — The Party is just a brilliant fucking album. He can really tell compelling stories, and his songwriting is fantastic.

It's the production I can't get over, too... so tasteful, so simple, so well-recorded. He just makes a lot of great choices.
