Ash takes more work to finish, and is generally reputed to have a bit of a brighter sound. If there really is that much a difference is up to your ears.
Times change.  Remember when dog Jimmy used to go white and chalky?  Now it grows hair!  We got used to it. We'll get used to poly. -blueavenger

I think the main reason it often gets chosen is because it usually has a nice grain that shows through a trans finish.

If I was planning a solid colour, I'd probably stick with alder unless I had to get everything sounding as bright as possible for some reason.

Yes there is a BIG difference in sound..
My vote is for Ash.....all day long.
Much brighter, resonant, clearer.

After Ash, there is no going back.

i want clear, but i also go for a really midrangey tone, with medium over drive. How do you think ash would go with that description. Oh, also  im gonna be using a seymour duncan QP in the bridge. Any idea?
