Re: Squier unveils The Cribs signature
Hi all, new to the forum, but have read this thread A LOT over the past two years!
I'm a huge Cribs fan (like, can't remember how many gigs fan) but wasn't immediately sold on the Musuar at first. The Fender photos did it no justice in my opinion, so it was typical that as you guys started posting pics I wanted one and they had all gone!
So I've been looking on and off for the past 18 months and had no luck. Put up a post on Facebook in a guitar group on the off-chance someone may own one and be willing to sell. Immediate response - a shop relatively close by had one on the wall, brand new according to someone who visited last week.....
No chance I thought, what with there being so few and it being discontinued for two years. Gave them a call "no, sorry, no Ryan Jarman guitar here". Made a coffee, dried my eyes, tried again "Oh yeah there is a purple Squier, odd shaped thing". I was in the car before she stopped talking!
Turned up at the shop (they have no website or email address so the chance of this happening was so minimal) and there it was, brand new, all the protective stickers on it, everything. Unbelievably it was £299, so £50 less than in 2016! I asked if it had been on the wall all that time and they said no, it had been in the store room since August 2016 and had gone up the previous week. People liked the colour but not the shape, haha!
So I left a very happy man, original shipping box and all. You all know what it looks like, but as I'm super excited:
I’m fortunate in that I have a few Jazzmasters as well, mainly my 2002 CIJ in Burgundy Mist which is my go-to guitar, so it’s awesone to add a matching guitar which is of very similar, excellent build quality, but with a completely different set of sounds.
Needless to say I’ve been cranking out Hey Scenesters! and Our Bovine Public on it today.

That's amazing. Congrats!
If I had your stick-to-itiveness I'd have more of my favorite guitars by now. Sigh..

I'm sure some Fender dealer in '64 looked at the new Duo-Sonic II and thought, "That's not a Duo-Sonic. That's a Mustang".

Well played on an excellent score, it's a fantastic little thing to start with + with plenty of space for improvement/modifications.

Thanks guys. When I have my heart set on a guitar I do tend to stick with it, although price is often prohibitive.
Seeing it at each Cribs gig was always a reminder on this one too!

You lucky son of a... If I found out about that shop before you, you'd have one fewer guitar right now! I'm just hoping that it wasn't near where I live.welshywelsh wrote: ↑Sat Aug 11, 2018 3:15 pmHi all, new to the forum, but have read this thread A LOT over the past two years!

Seriously though, congratulations! Very pleased it's gone to a big Cribs fan. I'd have loved it, but as an offset guitars / Jag-stang fan who discovered the Cribs through this guitar rather than vice versa, you seem more deserving of it than me!

Re: Squier unveils The Cribs signature
Ha, yeah I’ve done my Cribs time for a good 15 years or so. It’s been cool reading this thread and having Gary’s input on the guitar too, adds to the inclusiveness of the band and fans.
Not sure where you’re based, but I got it from a shop in Cwmbran. Bit of a drive for me but worth it.
Already been offered $1000 for it from someone in the US which is crazy but it’s worth more to me than some quick cash that I’ll just spend on more pedals.

Re: Squier unveils The Cribs signature
Interesting to re-read this now that the XII reissue is a real thing.Jarman wrote: ↑Thu Oct 20, 2016 9:35 am
The obscure guitar that I have heard most talk of having a possible re-issue was the XII. Not sure what became of that, but I know there was definitely interest in that project, and Fender were certainly aware of the demand for one. This was around early 2015 I think. Neil even once teased me to 'keep my ear to the ground', which made me think it was going ahead...but thus far, no news. Have been so wrapped up in the signature models that I haven't brought it up for ages. The Swinger I just brought up in conversation after returning from a tour of Japan. I had noticed that many of the big guitar shops had Swinger copies in tons of different finishes, and they were pretty expensive too. I just tipped the guys off and thought it would be a good time to re-issue - even if it was just for the Asian market as the demand was obviously there.
So maybe Swingers coming up soon, too?!
Just too bad that the Jarman sigs didn't get new colors this year... or even a 2nd edition.
But they know, they will sign like hot bread when/if they bring 'em up again!
i love delay SO much ...that i procrastinate all the time.

Re: Squier unveils The Cribs signature
These should actually be Fender parallel universe guitars. They don't get much more mashed up than this.
