I have large hands, and I really enjoyed my limited time playing a vintage Ric 330-12MrFingers wrote: ↑Tue Aug 14, 2018 7:48 amThe thing with Rickenbacker 12's is that they're virtually unplayable in the first positions if you have hands that are larger than that of a midget, or your fingers are not as thin as that of Daubentonia madagascariensis. And they're expensive for what they are.

Whenever this discussion comes up, there always one....sirspens wrote: ↑Thu Aug 16, 2018 3:54 pmI have large hands, and I really enjoyed my limited time playing a vintage Ric 330-12MrFingers wrote: ↑Tue Aug 14, 2018 7:48 amThe thing with Rickenbacker 12's is that they're virtually unplayable in the first positions if you have hands that are larger than that of a midget, or your fingers are not as thin as that of Daubentonia madagascariensis. The thing is, you're definitely in the minority there. It's not impossible to play in the first position, but if you want the top E to ring out when you play a C chord, you have to place your fingers more like a classical player would - i.e. at +/- 90 degrees to the board. Us lazy pop guitar players just don't do that naturally.
I assumed the problem was me when I found I couldn't play a C chord on a 360/12, then I read Roger McGuinn saying he'd had to re-learn how to play when he got his, so I didn't feel so bad. My work-around is to just mostly stay away from the first position, either with capo use or choice of chord inversions, but you shouldn't have to have a work-around on a £2k+ guitar!!!

The Hagstrom 12s are great - both vintage and reissue. They have twin truss rods which allows super skinny necks.

so, i went ahead and switched the string order.jakeisjake wrote: ↑Thu Aug 09, 2018 5:22 pmi love my danelectro 12. sold a Ric 12 and i'm happy with it.
i've thought about getting another and reversing the string order (like a Ric) for fun.
i've only played it a few times so far...and not with my regular amp...so, i don't have a real review, but i can say this:
it doesn't make it sound like a Ric; but it definitely sounds better. it is "softer, having the bass strings on top mellows the sound out quite a bit
If I was a byrd, I'd be mighty sore every time they shut the door and I don't think I'd sing...

Interesting.. I always wondered how switching the strings around to the Ric pattern would sound.
I did the exact opposite of what you did - I sold my Danelectro Cherry Sunburst semi-hollow 12 when I bought a Ric 360/12. I do love the Ric, but wish now that I had kept the Dano as well.. I really did like that guitar..
