Man, what a bummer. I was planning on buying a bridge and collet from them but was going to wait until after this trip to Paris I'm taking this month. Almost pulled the trigger two months ago but decided to save the money for the trip instead.

Unpleasant scenario (or tip, however you like to take it): vulture assholes in the UK hoarding as much of the limited supply as they can get their hands on and then selling it on ebay for twice the money.

Not so unpleasant scenario: the owner has licensed the manufacturing to someone else, maybe even Fender - and why not, really, if they have already co-operated on some Fender models. ( Was it Marr Jag, or TVL JM, or both, or was it just speculation?)
I hadn't considered the licensing option; that could certainly account for the export freeze if it turns out to be true. (And the Marrguar had the Staytrem bridge. Don't know enough about the TVLJMs to comment.)

sadly, i think brexit has the power to kill a lot of small specialist companies. i think if staytrem are doing anything, it's waiting to see how it plays out.

personally, before brexit, i hated how hard it was to get something from the usa to the uk because customs would open it up and ask you why you need it and then charge you more than you paid in some cases. (still not bitter bout my baritone neck or my ex bandmate's devi ever pedals being held hostage)

The Johnny Marr Jaguar has a Staytrem modified mustang bridge, rather than an actual Staytrem bridge.

Damn. Didn't see that coming.

Was just emailing John a few weeks ago, for some post shims to use on my VI. When I went through the store to order them (as directed) I noticed there wasn't a Canadian option for shipping. After a bit of back and forth, it boiled down to Canada Post being asshats and losing packages - or asshat Canadians saying their packages had been lost, in order to get a free bridge? Anyway, he was his usual, pleasant self and offered to ship at regular cost - just that I'd have to assume all responsibility, if it turned out lost. Not only did it arrive...
it got here in THREE days :wtf:

I do hope that whatever the scenario - it turns out for the better on his end. He took the time to tool up the best bridge (imho) and share it at a cost that didn't put it out of reach, for the bulk of us.

The weirdest thing is that it really wasn't that long ago that the US and EU were negotiating a free trade agreement and most people advocating Brexit, even for shits'n'giggles, would have been sent to the loony bin or ridiculed to death.

And now we have this clusterfuck. (And no, by "clusterfuck" I don't mean the situation with Staytrem.)

Super lame. I was just thinking about ordering another bridge soon too. Glad I have two though. And in light of what may come with buying from the UK, glad I already got some mojouk gold foils earlier in the year. I hope the business can survive until the world is slightly less dumb.

Basically just a Mustang bridge with the nylon bushings on the bottom of the bridge posts AFAIK (original Marguars had 56mm spacing, with reports that the new LPB Marrguar has 52mm spacing) - see 2014 Marrguar pic below. But otherwise stock Mustang ... springs instead of nylon washers, non-offset Philips head screws, 7.25" radius etc.

Which prompts again the question I tried to explore earlier, "What are they key attributes of the (real) Staytrem" ? Anyone care to offer their experience ?

As Wesley Willis once sang: "Shit and fuck".

I guess this is just more reason for me to get a metal lathe and start making improved saddles and things.

I need to make a UK buddy here. This is sad. Those are a damn-near perfect product/design.

I'll add my name to the listed of people bummed out by this. Was just about to buy another bridge.

Let's hope it's not a permanent change.

Ouch. It might just be that John wants to put his foot down and have a life outside of making offset trems, but I have an inkling it might be something more sinister and 'Brexit'-related (I still can't believe this word made it into people's vocabulary).

A side note about Britain leaving the EU...I lived and worked in the UK for extensive periods of my life and still consider England as my adoption country. It's only a short flight (or train ride) across the Channel for us French people, but it's starting to feel like that bit of sea is getting wider and wider. Even though I live in France now, English is still my main language a lot of the time as a lot of my best friends are Brits. Also, as a pickup maker I try to order as much as I can from small businesses in England, since they haven't completely given up on their metal industries and still make very fine products. Basically, I hate seeing this connection being broken up for dumb, dumb, dumb political reasons :'(

Huh. I was wondering what I would put on my Jaguar, I guess my choice is made. I prefer Mastery anyway but shit, it was nice have having a choice.

Oh well. I mean, it's likely that StayTrem isn't John's only thing going and maybe he just wants to scale back.
