1975 Greco Tele Deluxe
I'd previously said I was done collecting, but then this cropped up - a pretty rare bird, Greco Tele Deluxe copy, special order Fujigen with natural finish and no belly cut. Haven't even plugged it in yet, but the neck has that full chunky profile I like. Oh and did I mention it's good looking?

Re: 1975 Greco Tele Deluxe
That's gorgeous! I always loved the look of the natural finish with the black guard on Deluxe's and Custom's.
How do the pickups sound, compared to a 70's Fender WRHB? Since it's from 1975, I'd be inclined to believe that it's a CuNiFe WRHB, but since it's not Fender, I'm not sure.

Really nice. There's a fernandes brown tele dlx in the shop near me and that has an incredible neck on it. Narrow nut, not much shoulder, hint of V profile.

Re: 1975 Greco Tele Deluxe
Thanks all - am having fun setting it up with 11s (d'Addario EXL115W) and checking it out.
The body cavity is marked like the neck heel ORDER MADE KTL-6N / ORDER MADE ナチウラル (natural). Pickups look like Maxon type 2 - I had them in a Greco Thinline one time, not a true WRHB because the polepieces are metal, just a standard humbucker arrangement but they sound great. This one apparently has a short in the bridge pickup which makes it sound thin - a project for a future day. I've just moved house and my amps are in storage so I can't play it electric! I should have kept the Pathfinder 15 with me.

Re: 1975 Greco Tele Deluxe
That's really stylish, it's hard to say without a real one next to it but I think the Greco might actually look a little more resolved than a 'real' one. I could totally see the Lonelady playing that guitar.

High praise indeed given her taste in cars! I've always loved the Deluxe but disliked the belly cut and mocha finish, so this is the one for me.
I do have a thing for Grecos and sen - the photos don't capture the silver shimmer of the grain ("chatoyance" don't you know). It has a 5 piece body - the front is 2-piece, sandwiched with a 3-piece back.

Re: 1975 Greco Tele Deluxe
No this tele spanking Lonelady or Julie Campbell as she's known to her gran.
What I like is how it's both modernist and a bit of a period piece depending on context. i mean you could have imagined it being played by some waistcoated beardie hippy in brown cord flares and copy of The Joy of Sex on on his tile coffee table (though they'd have got brown to match their breeks) or someone with a more modernist sensibility since it's quite 'Habitat'

Holy shit thanks for enlightening me to Lonelady, great stuff! Hope you are enjoying the (baffling) new Grouper.

Re: 1975 Greco Tele Deluxe
She's great, probably the current guitarist I enjoy most, she's at the very least never annoying and always plays to the song but beyond that she's got a perfect pure style for her music. In her words she 'cordons off the rock'. I'd recommend both her albums particularly Hinterland.
She give good cameo too her most recent remix/semi cover of Wrangler's Space Ace with guitar so sharp you could cut yourself.
I like the Grouper or Nivhek as she's going by.

Re: 1975 Greco Tele Deluxe
those necks are WAY TOO FAT for me but those guitars (even the pick ups) sound great
I used to be cool, now I just complain about prices.

Re: 1975 Greco Tele Deluxe
My next guitar is going to be another Greco. Most likely a Firebird copy with the lyre tremolo...
The two Greco 'Rickenbacker" copies i own play great.

I will say I could be tempted by a Greco 'bird (but the hard tail version in tobacco burst).
