There’s a reason so many people play them.
It sounded similar to my MIJ JM, so out it went, and I haven’t had a strat in close to 20 years until now.
Now everything I play sounds like Stevie Ray. I’m off to buy a poncho.

Re: I suddenly think I need a Strat. Somebody talk me out of it
Little update, I took the strat in to the shop earlier in the week. Heard back from the tech earlier today and it will be all setup Monday. He’s currently cleaning up/modding the electronics and letting the new setup/fret dressing sit for a couple days.
The good news is that it didn’t need a refret, and there were no issues with the truss rod. The truss rod has me a bit spooked, being a basket case pawn shop find.
Other than that he’s putting in the 7 switching mod as discussed earlier, and the cap out of an Eric JOHNSON strat. He had one lying around and threw it in. Worse case scenario, I put the old one back in if I don’t like it.
He also recommended a guy to do a refinish....

See if he can verify what those pickups are.
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

The cool thing about fretless is you can hit a note...and then renegotiate.

I happen to adore the Mocha finishes but I reckon I'm within the minority.
I think overall I tend to prefer 70s finishes in general, the look of black on black maple strats or blackguard 3TSB maple strats is a lot more inspiring to me. Maybe because they're less common!

Don’t worry, I’m keeping it as is.
He suggested a few things, total restore, add some more mocha in places to make the fake relic less noticeable or to add some clear to even out and protect some I’d the wear spots. All for future work though, not right now.
He digs the strat as is. He told me that if I ever sell it he wants the body due to the lower weight compared to other strats of the era he’s seen/owned.

Leave it as is.
Curious how you know someone tried to relic it. Is it obvious? From the picture, it just looks like regular wear for those years.

Re: I suddenly think I need a Strat. Somebody talk me out of it
There is some real wear and chipping, but these were the years of thick poly. My guess is that a previous owner tried to sand it down so that it wouldn’t be as thick, or to help it age more naturally. Maybe they started sanding to do a refin and gave up. In some areas, mostly on the lower bout you can see what looks like sandpaper marks.
Some of it looks legitimate, mainly the upper bout, chipping and neck, but thinning the finish probably helped it along.

I don't understand how everything that's brown is apparently "poo" coloured.
What about CHOCOLATE, CARAMEL, COFFEE, PEANUT BUTTER coloured etc? Lots of nice tasty things that a brown thing could be called.
