NGD: Ooops i did it again....am i seeing double?
somebody stop me.
yep, another 1964 SG Standard obtained. i really shouldn't have done this and i may have to put up my non-reverse Firebird VII, but i got a pretty killer deal on this and just couldn't pass it up. it's 100% original, no issues, pretty much flawless except for a couple little dings. it looks, sounds, plays virtually identical to my other '64.

Great, you now have a spare for when you breathe on one funny and the headstock snaps right off

I mean, they are both cool as hell, but is having two of the same really worth your giving up your Firebird?

Yeah, the fact that you said that it looks, plays and sounds virtually identical is telling me that you might want to pick a favorite and move the other one on. If you got a great deal on the second, maybe it's one of those chances to just make a modest profit while enjoying a great guitar for a little bit.
I've "accidentally" overstocked on nearly-identical guitars (65 Mustang, 65 Jaguar) because of good deals I found, and inevitably I ended up letting go of one because it just didn't make sense for me. Each time though, I was able to make a trade or partial trade where I felt that I really got something worthwhile in return, which made me feel like it had been worthwhile. If I had just cashed straight back out for what I paid, it would have been less validating for sure.

Yeah, eventually one of them will move on (and be someone else’s grail). Hell, eventually both will move on.
My kids asked why I bought 2 of the same guitar—I told them so I could leave each of them with one when I die. So we’ll see, maybe that will be the case.
But until that time, it truly is special to play such a well preserved piece of history.

I'd be happy just to have one of them.

Co-signed.
The cool thing about fretless is you can hit a note...and then renegotiate.

It’s only a deal IF you need it. Those are very nice guitars none the less.

On the other hand, you can sell one of these guitars, then sit the kids down and tell them something similar to what I say to my kids, "For anyone who curses his father or his mother shall surely be put to death; he has cursed his father or his mother; his blood is upon him, and, I'm not gonna give you this cool-ass SG if you don't God damn listen."Hiwatt Bob wrote: ↑Wed Feb 27, 2019 8:53 pm

My parenting advice book is a little old-fashioned, though.
