70s Maple Fretboard Jazzmaster Question
Does anybody here know whether the maple fretboard, black blocks and binding necks on some of the 1970s Jazzmasters were one piece with a skunk stripe or two piece with a seperate fretboard.
I've been dreaming up a project, and I haven't been able to fine a photo of the back of any of these necks.

Also, is the 70s Jazzmaster headstock the same as say a Post CBS strat?

I'm guessing it has a skunk stripe due to the truss rod heel access. I have seen close ups of the headstock and it doesn't look like there's a separate fretboard either. I'm currently making one and I used the CBS strat headstock for the template, looks close enough to me!

Re: 70s Maple Fretboard Jazzmaster Question
The necks were two-piece with a separate fretboard. Also, they indeed had the larger CBS headstock. Also also, the maple fretboard option on Jazzmasters was only available in 1966 and 67, not into the '70s - as far as I know only 1 was ordered. Jaguars, on the other hand, had the maple board option until 1973.CorporateDisguise wrote: ↑Sun Mar 10, 2019 7:01 pmDoes anybody here know whether the maple fretboard, black blocks and binding necks on some of the 1970s Jazzmasters were one piece with a skunk stripe or two piece with a seperate fretboard.

They're maple cap necks. Truss rod came in before the fretboard. No skunk stripe.

Weird looking at those price lists that got posted and seeing that maple fretboards were like $30 more than the rosewood fretboards. Seems like it should have been cheaper.

I guess this finally proves what I've always suspected, which is that Antigua isn't half bad when you replace that heinous airbrushed pickguard with literally any other normal color. Not a bad look.

I’ve seen a few that seemingly had no green at all and just looked like a black and white burst that I liked a lot.

Well yeah, Antigua was a greyburst finish (white fading to dove grey). Only yellowing varnish gave it the avocado look.
