The compound radius fretboard is an innovation Warmoth pioneered almost 30 years ago, in which the fretboard gradually changes from a rounder radius at the nut end to a flatter radius at the heel end.
See http://www.warmoth.com/Guitar/Necks/Radius.aspx
Warmoth goes from 10" to 16" radius.
Oh weird. I have a dano 12 and it’s miserable to play partially because it’s neck heavy but also the fretboard feels like a 2x4 it’s so flat. I sure hope the fender neck isn’t like that!!

The 7.25” radius is the best as far as I’m concerned. Put your hand in a resting position, it’s not flat, it’s curved. Make an F chord shape with your hand. Also not flat. I think that’s got something to do with it. On a 12 it requires less effort to play so it’s smoother.

I put together a 12-string Telecaster using one of those Warmouth compound necks. The whole thing just never felt right. I blamed it on the fact that it was a maple neck, which I usually prefer, but it occurred to me after getting it that you don't see a lot of maple necked 12-strings. But maybe it's that compound radius too - it always felt weird to play. The body I used is kind of heavy too.

I recently got one of the Stratocaster XII reissues. It's a U shaped neck with the 7.2 radius with a 1.650" (42mm) nut. It's comfy enough to play with chords, but arpeggios are tough. Haven't compared it to a vintage XII, of course, but generally speaking, it's easier to play than that Tele of mine.

I'm a huge fan of the standard thin compound radius Warmoth necks. To the point that I'm on my 4th build using them. Everyone has a preference, though, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Flat wide necks are tough I hope they are 7.25!

New ones are 9.5” radius with about 1.5mm wider nut than vintage. So will probably feel wider. Hopefully not that bad.

hmm. yeah it doesn't quite add up.
Here is the gotoh bridge plan layout.

Image
This view of the bridge is looking at it straight down as though the guitar were laying on its back. If you look at the back of the new XII the holes look correct to me in that they match the flipped angle if you were to flip that bridge over to represent looking at the shape of the holes from the backside.

They're in this thread. Also most shops now have the specs posted.

I bought a Danoblaster 12 string that was dumb as hell and I had no idea how to maintain it or anything. Paid like $150 out the door in summer of 2010 and by September I traded it to a friend straight up for his Fiesta Jag Stang so that part was cool, but otherwise that specific 12 was shit.

Played a Coronado XII at Atomic Music in DC that was fucking awesome.

Thanks Akpasta,
So what I can find or see :derp: for specs on the new Electric XII are.
Gotoh Bridge 55.5-56 mm outside string to outside string spacing.
Nut 43mm
Radius 9.5"
21 fret. some specs list it as 22 fret untill you see the picture.
So if some one knows?, is the neck pocket a standard 2 3/16 or 2 5/16 like a venus or 2 3/8 like a vintage XII, I think? Let me know and correct me if I'm wrong here. But I was wondering the feasability of neck swaps. Maybe is't just a simulation of reality and the body is an alternate and is not accurate either. But it sure looks cool !

Oooh I see your question now. The neck profile and pocket is probably similar to the other new fender offerings and NOT vintage. Neck pocket is probably the similar to a jazzmaster, I don’t know how much neck pockets vary from new to vintage. Is it really difficult to mod a neck pocket to accept a different neck?

That bridge has individual string height adjustment so if you could put a vintage 7.25” radius neck on you’d be able to adjust it properly. The nut width is so similar once the strings got down to the bridge it would be fine.

Those Gotoh bridges are some of the best most versatile 12 string bridges ever made.

Anyone else pre-order one of these from Guitar Center or anywhere else?

I pre-ordered from guitar center and the charge popped up as "pending" on my bank account the last two weeks in a row. I called to ask if that meant it was in stock and shipping but they said no. Curious...

Anyone else actually selling these yet?

i put in an inquiry with "The Guitar Store" here in Seattle about their in-store date. they said they'd find out, but i haven't heard back yet. i imagine they'll have a big booth at this weekend's Sea-Tac guitar show, so i'll bug them again -
