NGD - 64 Jag Refin

Post by Ridgeback » Tue Mar 19, 2019 9:38 am

All original except for the tuners and probably a refret. Late enough in 64 (Nov) so it has pearl dots instead of clay. Supposed to be Dakota Red but it looks a bit too light for that. Nice quality refin though and plays great. The 64s and 65s are my favorite era for Jags.

well done! Looks like a good and solid refin. And the good thing is that you don't need to care about any original finish :) I do believe that people play better on vintage refins in comparison to strumming on an all original museum piece.

.... and that green guard is killer 8)

Very nice!
You have any idea what might be under the refin?

Sorry, I don't. There are a few chips in the red around the vibrato and one on the headstock but it looks like white primer under the red to me. Odds are pretty high that it was a sunburst though.

‘64 and ‘65s are great!! Nice score on that one 8) I have two ‘64s and one ‘65, all separated by just a few months. It is interesting how many changes occurred during that short time span.. single to double line Klusons, clay to pearloid dots, deep to shallow contours, etc. I don’t think I could pick a favorite though. They are all winners!

Wouldn't a sunburst finish come with tort rather than a white guard?

Beautiful guitar anyhow, the refin looks great and I bet it plays great too!

That looks like a MIJ decal on the neck; are you sure it's original? Neck stamp etc in the right place??

Stamped 1Nov64B in black ink below the truss rod. Supposedly a Brazilian rosewood veneer board. It really doesn't matter to me if it's not a period correct decal over the refin. It's a nice player's grade refin Jag that already had a Mastery installed (original bridge and mute included).
