What’s the reissue jazzmaster to get?
I’ve got a fairly Nice budget to get a used jazz master . What’s the model to get that is close to original? I DO want the rhythm circuit, as I actually do play jazz.
My budget probably tops at $2k usd, I only buy used.

If it was me buying fresh I'd get the AV '65 model. That being said, I have an AVRI and feel no need to make a move otherwise from it. But all things being the same, I'd prefer the binding and the slightly wider neck on the AV.
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

Closest you can get is the AV ‘65. If you don’t like binding, then the AVRI ‘62 or perhaps ‘58 anniversary.

Does radius matter to you ? 7.25 on AV(65)/AVRI(62), 9.5 on Am Original. Same pickups on AV and Am Original.

A used thin skin AV65 would be my personal choice unless you prefer the 7.25 radius or don't want a matching headstock or binding. I've owned several vintage ones, a 62 AVRI, an MIJ\CIJ, and a Fred Stuart Masterbuilt. The TS AV65 is my favorite of the bunch, even though I kind of regret selling the Masterbuilt. Just personal preference.

If you like the 7.25" radius check out the TVL Jazzmaster too.

The only real difference is the color and a toggle switch instead of the slider switch and a better bridge.

All I can say is my OTM American original is the best new Jazzmaster I’ve ever played, and I’ve played/owned most models since the mid 90’s. The thing resonates like a tuning fork and the craftsmanship is near perfect.
Of course, if you want a painted headstock go for the AV65.

Yeah. I think they’re great. Best “out of the box” sound and playability of any current production model for sure.daysleeperjeff wrote: ↑Sat Mar 30, 2019 9:12 amAll I can say is my OTM American original is the best new Jazzmaster I’ve ever played, and I’ve played/owned most models since the mid 90’s. Re: What’s the reissue jazzmaster to get?
So far we have:
What's the difference between the AVRI'62 and AVRI'65?
Online reviews seem unanimous that the AV'65 is superior in most ways to the AVRI'65, any dissenters?
Is the TVL a signature version of the AV'65? If so, besides the switch, any other differences?
What is the difference between the Thin Skin AV'65 and 'normal' AV'65?
Thanks for the help!
- American Vintage Reissue '62(7.25", no binding, no matching headstock)
- American Vintage '65 (7.25")(7.25", binding, matching headstock)
- American Vintage '65 Thin Skin(9.5", binding, matching headstock)
- American Original (9.5",binding, no matching headstock)
- ‘58 anniversary (7.25",no binding, no matching headstock)
- Troy van Leeuwen (7/25", matching headstock, binding, matching headstock

For me the neck is the main difference between AVRI '62 and AV '65.
The '62 's got a thinner C-shape, the '65 has a thicker C shape with more shoulder.
I prefer the '62.
You should test both to know what you like.

The AV65 thin skin has a 9.5 radius, 6105 frets, and the matching headstock. The non-thin skin AV65 has a 7.5 radius, vintage frets, and a non matching headstock. As stated previously, the main difference between the 62 AVRI and the non TS AV65 seems to be neck profile, pickups, and the lack of binding on the 62.

The Fender website shows the white American Vintage '65 with a matching headstock.Ridgeback wrote: ↑Sat Mar 30, 2019 10:34 amThe AV65 thin skin has a 9.5 radius, 6105 frets, and the matching headstock.
