Re: Fender amp suggestions
For £600, you shouldn't have too much trouble finding a clean, used SF Twin. In fact, a quick gumtree search just turned one up in Inverness for £500...

New Fenders of the size you're after will be a bit over your budget. Hit the guitar shops and try out a Vox or two and see how you get on with them...I see the 1x12 AC30S1 has been reduced in a lot of places, and you can get one new in the £500-600 range. I'd imagine that would give you more than enough grunt to keep up with a loud/heavy bass and drums.

Seconded (thirded? fourthed?) on a DRRI. I play mine with a super heavy-handed drummer and it doesn't have any trouble keeping up.

Re: Fender amp suggestions
Yeah DRRIs are pretty overbudget.
Not been that into examples I've heard either.

Re: Fender amp suggestions
Sorry, that's surprising. They can be found pretty easily for less than $800 here in the states (~£600).s_mcsleazy wrote: ↑Thu Apr 18, 2019 9:27 amim gonna reply to every one of these i see. he's really unlikely to find one in his price range. even used they tend to stay around £700

A Fender 75 came up in Stirling. Piqued my interest. Thoughts on this?

Re: Fender amp suggestions
if it works and you can get it for a good price, it's a good amp.
i was actually going to post here and mention guitar guitar glasgow has 2 used hotrod deluxes but the 75 is kinda cooler.

Haha yeah. Its £450, so pretty within budget. Checked some demos and its got good clean and a really ragged nice distortion. Might go for it, but I'd still prefer more speakers. In my mind thats kinda "stereo" I guess but yeah. Good amp.

Re: Fender amp suggestions
Been considering getting a cheaper solid state, as I'll be gigging in the summer. There's a Fender Sidekick 35 nearby for £60 which seems good. Supposedly sidekicks are what mbv used pre loveless and I love those records. Thinking of the Orange Crush 60 too.
A valve amp is a big investment and seems far off right now. I'd still be aiming for that but I feel I'd get the most out of a smaller amp at the moment.

Buy a cheap Pre Amp, like a $29.00 Art Tube Pre Amp which runs a 12AX7 Tube, plug it in into your Solid State Amp & plug your Guitar into the Pre-Amp dial it in & you'll be amazed how good it will sound.. Cheap way to get a Valve State Amp.....

Re: Fender amp suggestions
I don't know how common they are in the UK, but you may want to look into Peavey amps. My first amp was a Peavey Classic 50 and was plenty loud for most situations. I sold it to buy a Delta Blues because I mostly play at home and didn't need 50 watts, and even that can keep up with a decent drummer.
They've got a very versatile EQ, and though not quite voiced like a Fender, can do a Fender-ish clean pretty easily. They're built like tanks. The only thing on your list on your list that they are a bit lacking on in my opinion, is the amp gain. It's not a bad sound, but not super inspiring either. But then again, I've always been a pedal guy and the sound I was always after is a treble booster going into a Tubescreamer. Between the clean tone and the amp gain, they are very similar to the Fender Hot Rod series sound-wise.
All the Classic series (C30, C50, Delta Blues, the old C100 heads) are workhorses. I had a quick Google search and it said that there were a few that were under your budget. Might be worth a look into at a local shop just to see if you dig them if nothing else

Have you given any thought to a Fender Supersonic... Decent cleans and two gain stages?

Ultimately budget and location will determine what ballpark $ figure you're looking at, and it's almost always outside the budget....Larsongs wrote: ↑Sat Apr 13, 2019 8:28 pm850 Pounds is about $1150.00 U.S. Dollars... You can buy a good Used all British built Vox AC15 for that? I'd jump on it! That's about half of what they go for here in the U.S.s_mcsleazy wrote: ↑Fri Apr 12, 2019 7:17 amused ones tend to be like £850. dunno what that is in us. i'm not sure what most vox ac15's go for anymore. i remember i nearly brought one for like £300 used a few years ago.
Fender amps are cheap in the US, Vox and marshalls are cheap in the UK and none of them are cheap in Australia.
So every time I see someone complain on a forum about the price of amps made locally, I have a little chuckle.
When I see someone sigh over the price of an amp made outside their country I empathize with their sentiment.
When I go looking for an amplifier I have all my research amount that particular model and brand done, and use a very objective list of tests to determine if I'll buy it.
I always take a multimeter, a bias reader and a battery screwdriver with me, and if it comes to the point where I'm pulling an amp tray, then the discussion is going one of two ways. Either I'm going to buy it, or the seller is about to find out there are 'issues'.
I've never paid the asking price because you can ALWAYS find something inside that has an 'adjusting' effect on the asking price.
