My main "Never Getting Rid Of It" guitar is an early 1990s 330 Mapleglo with black trim/hardware. I'll look around for pics of it and post them later, but it was a wedding present from my wife. It was my main on-stage guitar when I played out, as pictured here: Image

I replaced the R tailpiece recently with a direct drop-in harp tailpiece from Winfield Vintage on Reverb: https://reverb.com/item/7234464-6-strin ... er-guitars THAT has definitely made a restringing difference.

I keep it strung with flatwounds (like a proper Ric 12 string should have, IMO).
Definitely! As time rolls on, I am slowly coming to prefer flats on just about everything that I play. My Jags are one of the only ones that I haven't converted yet. I might put a set of GHS Precision Flats on one of them and see how it goes. They just sound so perfect now that I hesitate to change anything. Not like I can't just go back to rounds i want, though. I put a set of Pyramid flats on my 330/12 before I even played it.

I was able to snag a mid '90s 360/12V64 today. As soon as it gets here, flats will be the first thing it gets. I am not sure what I want to put on it. I wasn't as thrilled with Pyramid's 12 string set on my old 330 as I have been with their 6 string sets. It has come down to either Pick of the Ricks custom Thomastik Infield set or else putting together my own set of GHS Precision Flats from JustStrings.com for less than half the price.

I used to have Labella flats on my old 330/12. I thought they were all right. Have you tried them?

I know nothing bout Rics, never even played one. Why are there so few pics of really worn vintage ones out there? Or am I wrong?
Always asked myself the same thing!
Fewer people play them compared to Gibsons and Fenders. And no one "relics" ricks.
Back around 2000 I found a lefty 70's Fireglo 620 at Southworth's Guitars in DC. The finish was COMPLETELY checkered. I kick myself now for passing on it, but then again I ended up buying a 360V64 (unchecked) a few of years later, and it has been my main guitar for years.

Good day, sunshine!

Can you guys tell me about the pickups in your 360V64s? As I understand it, the toasters that V64s came with are wound to a higher output than what you would typically expect. The 360/12V64 that I just bought is a '94, so I believe they will be the same. I'm just curious what they sound more like... a toaster, a Hi Gain, or somewhere in between. I wish it were in my hands already and I could figure it out for myself! Hopefully it will be here by this time next week.

I've got an '87 330/12 fireglo which is a lovely guitar and firmly in the not-to-be-sold category.

I had a midnight blue 330/6 with black hardware which was a nice guitar but I thought looked quite dowdy, and it was eventually sold. I'd like to get a midnight blue 360/6 with white hardware and toasters at some point.

Not quite Rickenbackers, but I've also always wanted a Crockenbacker 360F replica.

I would say somewhere in between?

They are thicker and have more punch, maybe louder, compared to a vintage Toaster, but brighter and not as much midrange compared to the Hi-Gains.

While it is wound for more output the magnet configuration is like the old Toaster pickups whereas the Hi-Gains are more like a P-90. The v64 and Hi-Gains are both wound to 12k and not 7-9k like a vintage, but due to the magnets and not having pole pieces, the v64 is brighter and more focused than the Hi-Gain, but the output is lower and it won’t drive the amp as hard.

Short story: I haven’t wanted to buy a compressor.

Edit: Rickenbacker did start making the vintage spec Toasters again for the 360c63 6 and 12 string guitars, but I think that the Toaster pickups from 1988-2001 are going to be 12k.

The 360F is a beautiful guitar. If I were a collector...

Thanks for that!

It helps me a lot.

It's nice to get the facts from someone who I trust who isn't using one for Byrds covers (not that there's anything wrong with that!).

Sure thing! The Rickenbacker Beatles and Byrds cult is strong. They fret over the smallest details. I am glad that I am not obsessive like that!

Might be grabbing a 70's 4000 from a friend. Payed it for 5 minutes and new I couldn't pass it up if it became available. The neck and larger radius felt perfect. Some unfortunate mod/wear but so it goes. It's a player not a flipper. Fingers x'd.

Also: This 4004 is pretty hot...

there's a very interesting Mapleglo 360 wb for sale over on the TGP. (not affiliated in any way).

If I had the disposable cash....
If I was a byrd, I'd be mighty sore every time they shut the door and I don't think I'd sing...

That one is interesting (refretted with bigger frets, unfinished fingerboard, Rickenbacker humbuckers). Looks pretty classy but the big frets would probably bug me.
