Please, give me counsel!
Hello all,
First off, thanks to Justin for sending me this way - fantastic site!
That said, I am at a crossroads.
I have enough money to buy a used MIA 62 RI JM. I also have a mid 90's Japanese JM body lying around (as pictured here: www.noyesrecords.com/jazzmaster.jpg).
I don't know if I should a) sink money into fixing up the body, adding a neck, etc. OR
b) buying a MIA 62 RI.
I currently have a MIJ Jazzmaster with Seymour Duncan Antiquity II's in it. It's great (though it needs a setup), and it definitely makes me want another JM - I just need help deciding. All opinions welcome.

Do you have anything in addition to the body? Trem, bridge, etc?
I would tend to lean toward the AVRI - unless you're looking for a project. I'd definitely recommend getting AVRI hardware if you complete the body you have - it's much nicer than the stuff on the Japanese guitars.

sink money into fixing up the body
that body looks good, you might want to just slap some parts on,then you could upgrade the other guitar parts wise too.unless your other JM is 3TSB

I'm glad you're enjoying it here.
If you have enough saved up at the moment for a used AVRI, I'd probably recommend going that route for the time being. You can always buy extra parts here and there and eventually build up the spare body. Now is proving to be a pretty good time to buy AVRIs used. There have been quite a few on eBay for real good prices over the last month. I bought a used 2003 AVRI Jaguar a couple months ago for only slightly more than I paid for my '94 MIJ Jaguar a couple years ago!

That's what I am thinking, though Nash Timewarp jazzmasters are really attractive right now...
What's a used 3TS AVRI worth?

I've seen quite a few lately from around $8-900 with case and all. They all weren't sunburst though. I can't really remember what all colors there have been actually.

Re: Please, give me counsel!
This is turning into a nightmare. I sold my CIJ Jag on eBay for 705 dollars, only to have the winning bidder (who 'sniped' in the last few seconds) tell me she didn't want the guitar anymore.
I believe what I am going to do (when I re-sell the guitar) is get a MIA 62 RI and strip it if I don't love the color, to refinish it sometime later (unless I really like it stripped). I'll gradually build the old body up over time.

leave them scathing feedback and file te non-paying bidder on ebay. I hate people like that.

Re: Please, give me counsel!
It's really really brutal, as I've got my eye on a guitar that I can't afford without this money. Grr. I am almost willing to settle for a CIJ JM with Vintage Vibe pickups.

If you're interested in a trade for a CIJ Jag + cash.

Afraid not...I love JM's but can't get along well with Jags. Had one a while back, sold it to get another JM.

Whoops
Thanks to Justin for bailing me out, and apologies for being a dummy. I love this site!
As it turns out, I sold my Jag on eBay and am buying an AV RI JM in sunburst, and gradually building my other body up over time. Yay, Jazzmasters!
