You have $2K to spend. What guitar do you pick and why?

Lately my GAS has been for a Musicmaster II, and there's a bunch of them on reverb for under like $1500.

So like that and then spend the leftover money on taking my wife out to a fancy steakhouse because there's no way she's letting me spend that much on a guitar when we live in a small apartment and I a!ready have 3. Gotta be realistic here, yall.

:D

I’d go for one of those new Gibson SGs with mini hums. They’re just so beautiful and nice to play. And then new pickups if needed and money left over.

Yeah, typo on that one. For what I'm seeing and liking on reverb, 14-1500 seems to be on the high side.

this isn't doing anything to change my impression that Reverb is full over insanely overpriced guitars ;)

Please tell me it’s one of those gorgeous cherry burst ones with the 3 way selector?! Oh wait, musicmaster II, nevermind. You could definitely get one of those for around the $1000 mark. Hella steaks for $1000. You could fly to a special location just to have steaks for that. Southwest and steaks for two, my newest album. ;)

Weird answer, but if I had that money today, it would be an early 90’s Gibson Flying V, ideally either sunburst or black. I would try to spend about $1500-1600 on it and spend the rest upgrading the hardware and/or electronics.

If you ask me a week from now, it’s likely my answer will be different!

With $2K in hand, I'd get make a custom Tele Custom (or Jazzmaster) and get a Princeton Reverb to go with it ;D

I'd make a fully featured custom Strat with a offset tremolo.

Might be able to find a used Gibson ES-330 for that much. If not that then a vintage Duo-Sonic II.

I'd be very tempted to get into the buying & selling game with 2 grand.

I'd wait until a dead cert came up in the local free ads & buy it (or them if I could get more than one guitar). With a bit of luck & a lot of patience I'd keep doing this until I hit 5 grand. Then I'd buy either a vintage Gibson acoustic (probably a Southern Jumbo) or a re-issue Gretsch Duo Jet and slightly less pricey acoustic.
You think you can't, you wish you could, I know you can, I wish you would. Slip inside this house as you pass by.

New, my choice would be an FSR roasted ash/roasted maple neck Tele. I’ve tried a few and have been really impressed. Light, resonant, and sound great. Other than possibly bridge saddles there’s nothing I’d want to change. Pretty handsome too IMO.

An American Original JM would be a close second.

Epiphone Riviera, the korean model from the 90s with minihums, a CV Jag and a Höfner Contemporary Club Bass. If I'm lucky I got some money left for a korean Danelectro U2 Baritone. 8)
Budget guitars are good enough for me and these would be a cool addition to my collection.

A 2nd-hand Bilt Relevator ?
You'd have to find one you like in terms of pickups/color/specs as not two of them are built the same, but they're often underpriced, as a high-end guitar without the mighty Fender or Gibson on the headstock is generally difficult to sell.
