You have $2K to spend. What guitar do you pick and why?
Second hand Electrical Guitar Company guitar, built like absolute tanks and resale value is solid if things go to pot. Either that or a Dunable R2. Although I've had bizarre GAS for something shreddy and multiscale recently, no idea why as I don't tune down ever and can't play super fast either.

I'm really leaning towards a Gretsch Duo Jet. A tad more than $2K, yes. But I already have a Strat, a Tele, a Jazzy, a Jag, etc., etc., etc. On one hand, I like what I like. On the other, maybe it's time to expand my horizons. Am I wrong? Can one person have too many of the same guitar? I dunno...

I’m sure like most Teisco’s it’s playability & sound doesn’t live up to it’s cool aesthetics.

Myself, I can’t justify blowing 2k on a guitar or even gear. I’d rather use the money to replace the timing belt on my car & other guilty free non-gluttony shit.

Hahah that suits me just fine. Aesthetics come first, playability I can take care of, and sound is in the eye of the beholder.

Quite surprised to get such a comment from someone named after a series of particularly raucous garage compilations! I thought you'd get it maaaaan! :D

Oh good for calling me out on that, ha! I think the vintage Japanese are really cool. They had a lot of really cool original designs. What’s no cool is how they can go into dumb prices. Seems like the more pickups & switches the more unreasonable the price. Going with a used weird modern alternative is a no brainer to me IMO. The garage bum in me is quite happy with a cheap Squire offering.

ha- yeah, mostly I agree. There are loads of cool shaped ones that are basically have the same hardware, flat fretboards and pickups as the cheapos, but that one...transcends all that for me. Not that I actually ever would spend 2k on any guitar! ;) I'm happy to wait til I get lucky on a pile of broken bits for £100 ;D

Exactly! :w00t: After some "intervention", my ET-460 now has the playability to match its looks and is one of the last guitars I'd let go.
$2k could get me a good handful of stuff.

Epiphone Riviera, the korean model from the 90s with minihums, a CV Jag and a Höfner Contemporary Club Bass. If I'm lucky I got some money left for a korean Danelectro U2 Baritone. 8)
Budget guitars are good enough for me and these would be a cool addition to my collection.
No affilitation but there just so happens to be one of those Rivieras at New Kings Road guitars right now...
