Yamaha announced they were looking a making a re-issue so I think that’s why old Blackbeard suddenly rushed up a render of a CS80.

Be interesting..there’s a lot of custom IC’s in a CS80.

Pretty psyched to see what Behringer does with their "clone" of the old CS-80.

I wonder if Yamaha is going to make theirs as enormous and enormously expensive as a real one.

Wait, what?

They need to stop announcing clones of every synth that ever became a popular VST and finish the Oberheim clone. They sure like to announce clones of complex polysynths at a brisk pace, but the team they have working on them does it in their spare time, basically. Beyond that, it'd sure be cool to see this, and I'd want one and would have to stop myself because after years and years owning the arturia plug in, I still can't program the damn thing for shit.

The Novation Summit was just released: https://www.musicradar.com/news/superbo ... -polysynth

Good news for me as this will probably put used Peaks in the 700€ pricerange which means I might be able to finally get one.

True, but I guess they also want to stagger everything and gauge public reaction whilst also trolling every other major brand that can't do things as well and for as cheap *cough* Roland, Moog, Yamaha *cough*

Good point. Still, it seems like gauging public response to offering holy grail synths for cheep is kind of a pointless exercise. I mean, these are the synths that everyone's been pulling their hair out over not being able to find/afford for decades now. Public reaction is "GIMME", every time. Only sort of having the team to make them happen, though... without that , the public reaction is gonna change to "GIMME THAT PITCHFORK" sooner or later. It's almost like they're trolling the rest of us right along with their competition. :squint:

I see it like this, as well... They offered the Moog right off the bat and that sold a lot! If they offered that at the same time as the Pro One, people would probably buy either one, but not both. Offer them a year or so apart, and that gives enough time for people to buy both. Summer NAMM, we'll probably see the OB clone, and next year we'll see the CS-80. By then, I can afford both!

Diabolical.

Hoooooly shit! Look at this: https://youtu.be/sSinwaShpzE

:w00t: :-* :?

Dunno bout the Behringer Synths. I was at Superbooth last year and they had lots of prototypes there, the VC340, the Pro One, SH 101 and also the Odyssey. They were all very solid and felt really like quality stuff. We also use a Midas desk in our studio but I'm having a hard time trusting a company that build shitty products for years and I just don't like the attitude of releasing clone after clone after clone. ???

Yamaha has had a few decades to get their shit together and produce their own CS-80.
There is a good reason why copyrights expire.

They seem to be doing a better job of it, too. Would you rather have the Deep Mind 6/12, or whatever utterly cheezy Roland synth being sold under the "Juno" name. The boutique models were kind of interesting if you were an elf with pencil-width fingers, but hey- if roland makes a good, real Juno with MIDI, I'd be all over it.

Maybe it's apples and oranges but I was not impressed by the Deepmind at all and found it a rather uninspired and uninspiring synth. Whereas Korgs Minilogue XD or Novation with the Peak and the new Summit or Waldorf with the Kyra put out very interesting and great sounding synths that really spark inspiration. So, I have to admit I would remain sceptical for nonobjective reasons, but I feel Behringer could put more effort in their original designs and do something interesting. Maybe I'm just not in the market for cheap copies of old synths, though...

The DeepMind involves a fair bit of deep diving to get it to sound best. Behringer clearly should have just made a straight up clone of a Juno 106 since that's what we all really want anyhow...

The original Minilogue is OK at best, but mostly nibbles my nutsack. I haven't played the XD but based on clips, it kind of still sounds the same as the original (plasticy) except with more bass - It's essentially the same Malibu Stacy, but with a new hat.

I haven't had much experience with the Novation stuff. I'm sure it's fiiiiine.

The synth community, unless you're into modular stuff, seems to be quite similar to the guitar community, where acceptable guitar innovation ended in 1970, the synth keyboard community doesn't seem to care for anything made past 1987. Behringer comes out with something original and everyone boos it. They create a well made and stupidly affordable version of coveted old synths and people boo them for not coming up with something original.
