I use Dunlop .73, purple big stubby 3mm, and picks made from rosewood and ebony.

the one and only Moshay .... the green (medium) or blue (thick) weights, always large size. got turned onto them like 30 years ago and haven't looked back -

Sure, they'll wear out, but I've not noticed it occurring at any substantially increased rate over other picks. I used to play the ULTEX ones but found them to be a little on the bright side.

I've been playing Dunlop tortex .88 mm (the green ones) for years. But I've been doing a lot of hybrid picking lately, and I'm wondering if I shouldn't replace them with something "grippier"...

I’ve been using the medium Fender celluloid ones for years now. They last a long time and I’ve not noticed them to accentuate any frequency in particular. Plus they’re cheap and easy to find.
This isn’t some kind of metaphor

dunlop tortex .88 for regular playing but if there is a song where im doing trem picking, i use the .73 tortex.
i tend to wear out these ones less than the regular plastic kid.

For me it’s always been Dunlop Jazz IIIs, preferably the Eric Johnson ones, but recently I’ve diversified into the Tusq and (ridiculously expensive) Gravity ones, Will probably end up back with the Jazz IIIs, though.

Re: What’s your plectrum of choice?
I started with Fender celluloid in medium too. My local guitar store sold some kind for 5 for a dollar, and then I would buy those. I didn't think it mattered, because I liked both of those.
After buying some other random cheap picks, and I found that I actually loved the sound of the guitar store plectrums. When I would come to my home town to visit I would stock up (for about $2). Actually, first I thought I was crazy for even thinking I could hear a difference. But ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I think they stopped selling them or I came home less often or something, but I realized they must just be some other manufacturer and I experimented to find that they were Ernie Ball picks. In trying a few brands to figure this out, though, I found that I like Dunlop Ultex a lot more. Or..I eventually found myself only playing those.
Anyway, I think plectrums and string brand/gauge have a lot more influence on tone...than I realized anyway. And you don't hear about it on forums quite as much as the difference between ash, alder, 60s vs 70s pickups or those kinds of things. I prefer Ultex 1.0mm with bass, .73 for a couple guitars, and lately I sort of like .88 better on my acoustic.

Re: What’s your plectrum of choice?
I failed to mention wegen picks. I used to play a lot of gypsy jazz and these picks were the best for it.
They’re very expensive, but they last forever.
I stopped buying them because I’d always lose them and at twenty Canadian dollars a piece, it can get crazy.
They sound so good though. I must resist visiting the one shop that carries them.

Dunlop Jazz III, either the red ones or the Ultex ones. I've used the same dozen or so of the red ones for the last 12 or 13 years now.

Re: What’s your plectrum of choice?
This has been a really informative thread so far. I've learned about a lot of pick makers I didn't even know existed, and it's interesting to hear about everyone's preferences/playing styles.
Maybe I'll experiment with a heavier pick again at some point. When I was younger I wasn't as good at controlling the dynamics of my playing. I'm still not great at it, but maybe I don't need a pick to act as a compressor.

Oh no they're still (again) out there!
Ibanez phased out the original Sand Grip ones a while back which made them unobtainable for a while but shops have started stocking the new "Grip Wizard" ones as of late (at a slightly higher price...). You can find them on Amazon or your preferred retailer.
