Re: New Squier Starcasters - Classic Vibe, Contemporary, and Affinity
honestly, they should just stop making pao faro boards right now until they can figure out wtf they are doing. Like ffs dip it in some kinda dark goo in a tank, bake it, freeze it, light it on fire, shoot it with wind.......DO SOMETHING THEY LOOK LIKE ASS.
maple boards with some thick ass glossy tint FTW

Re: New Squier Starcasters - Classic Vibe, Contemporary, and Affinity
The pricing is in line with the way Ibanez does the AS53 ($299) versus the AS73 ($399). It also is similar to how Epiphone priced the Dot Studio vs the Dot. For even a bare bones semi-hollow, it seems like the big names aren't going to dip below that $299 price.Steadyriot. wrote: ↑Thu Jun 20, 2019 12:59 amI like how they look and all; but isn't 300 dollars pretty steep for something from the Affinity line?
Especially if 100 dollars more will get you a Classic Vibe Starcaster which; if the past is any indication will be the better guitar.

Those Classic Vibe models are gorgeous. It would be awesome if eventually they released a model with a JM/Jag trem.
Re: New Squier Starcasters - Classic Vibe, Contemporary, and Affinity
In a world of modelling, what matters these days is looks. And it seems the current trend is for humbuckers. That will change I’m sure. Horses for courses and all. I think the starcaster is ugly as, for what it’s worth.601210 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 20, 2019 3:56 amIt kinda is, though. As far as I can tell, outside of offset world that's what most boutique guitars look like nowadays.shadowplay wrote: ↑Thu Jun 20, 2019 2:48 amI find Fenders notion of 'Contemporary' quite baffling. It's like a 80's/90's mentality where (supposed) modernity is throwing out the old pickups and sticking in a pair of (shite looking) tough guy open gibson style humbuckers and a (flex) TOM for that RAWK AND SUSTAIN. It's like they are pandering to that calf tattooed Andersons set, their twatish preconceptions and their dead eye for design.
I often worry about the amount of access tasteless youtoob supercar arseholes have to the manufacturers and worry that the bad taste naff wrapped tail is wagging the dog and I feel the same with guitars.

Hell even within the offset world most boutique guitars just consist of taking an offset, throwing out everything good about it, and sticking in some humbuckers and a TOM. In 24 3/4 scale for added rock.
The only real sigh of relief is that “contemporary” hasn’t shifted to “neo-classical”...

The Contemporary Starcasters have covered active pickups. That seems pretty contemporary to me. The Affinity Starcasters have open coil humbuckers.shadowplay wrote: ↑Thu Jun 20, 2019 2:48 amI find Fenders notion of 'Contemporary' quite baffling. This is gonna sound sacrilegious to many, but it'd be a much better looking guitar if it were differentiated from the fender models by having a different headstock. I hate that foot-looking headstock, it makes my visual pun oriented brain fill in the image with some creepy looking sweaty guy licking it.

I'd be done with Squier if they released those with another headstockmackerelmint wrote: ↑Thu Jun 20, 2019 12:20 pmThis is gonna sound sacrilegious to many, but it'd be a much better looking guitar if it were differentiated from the fender models by having a different headstock. It looks like someone dropped the ball. They aren’t on Zzounds or AMS anymore. Secrets out!

Re: New Squier Starcasters - Classic Vibe, Contemporary, and Affinity
Well, in fairness, what's a contemporary guitar from any other company? Guitar culture has been pretty stagnant for the last 2-3 decades, except for the metalheads getting further and further into adding extra low strings and fanned frets.shadowplay wrote: ↑Thu Jun 20, 2019 2:48 amI find Fenders notion of 'Contemporary' quite baffling. Musically, that's really niche though. There just haven't been any new* guitar heroes in a few decades to change our ideas of what a "contemporary" guitar, or guitarist, is.
*stylistically speaking.
