So who is playing Gretsch guitars?

For guitars of the straight waisted variety (or reverse offset).

I've owned one old Orange '69 Nashville double cut, that had been monstered, violated with a Gibson-style bucker in the neck slot, Schallers, and an old plastic saddle Gibbo bridge. Oh, and a trapeze TP. :derp:
Then it had been left out of it's case, and various inclement temperature shifts had seen the binding crumble to powder.
Then it was put aside by the previous owner, or perhaps the previous two before me...
My cousin bought it off me when I first got into some bad space with an ex-partner (now known as "the Stalker") because...well, 15 years is just WAAY too long to be carrying on arguments and recriminations after a relationship has ended. Right? :D

Anyway... I had arranged with mah cuzzy to have first refusal if he decided to sell it again.
He did a great job rebinding it and replaced most of the foreign/non-original parts.
I wouldn't have put gold White Falcon tuners on it but, hey it wasn't mine at the time.
And they were cheap, possibly a trade for something?? I forget
But I never PLAYED that guitar while I owned it.
Mostly down to the fragility and EXTREME decrepitude... I think the wiring had been gacked when the pickup was swapped too.
If memory serves.
But after Cuzzin Jeppy rebound it and set it up, it sounded better unplugged than most acoustics I've owned. :wtf:
Then HE got into some bad financial air when HIS wife took ill, so the Nashville got liquidated just before I could raise the scratch.
Bugger. :'(
There's only a few guitars I've TRULY regretted selling or had wanted to not sell, and the neck on that old Nashville was beautiful feeling in the hand.

Then there was an Asian made (Korean?) silver Electromatic that I put late FilterTrons on... But I just wasn't feeling it.
Basically it was a trial & dial test but I just wasn't super happy with that guitar.
SUPER stressed and depressed about my relationship with my kid at the time as well.
Even with the 'Trons it still felt and sounded a bit like an Epi Les Paul of my friend's... In my mind at least, at that time.
Next!!

Also had a brief fling with a MIJ Champagne Sparkle double cut Sparkle Jet like Unicorn Warrior's from a few pages back (but with silver hardware)
I forget the Model No, but the colour and shape was identical to UW's.
It had a beautiful neck, but i wasn't thrilled with the huge Bigsby on such a small body
That one got liquidated to pay for another useless court hearing/barrister fee. That whole stalking thing had gone SEVERELY batshit by that point.
I ended up just folding mentally and then I took the bolt from all of it in the interests of improving my overall health.
Which is pretty good now, at 53. I was completely miserable and exhausted at 45. Never again. :fp:

Have been seriously considering getting another Hollow body again lately.
Has anyone played one of the Jupiter Thunderbird/ Billy Bo things?
Are they semi-hollow or solid body?

Peace.

I've had quite a few Gretsches over the years.
Some have been good some less so.
This is easily the best non vintage Gretsch i've ever had.

Another Penguin club member, sweet.

Dynasonics are my favorite solid body pickup. Up there with a pre-CBS Telecaster bridge, but you get 2 of them.

has anyone put a string spoiler on their Gretsch?
If I was a byrd, I'd be mighty sore every time they shut the door and I don't think I'd sing...

No. I had to look up what it was. I guess it’s got value? I think the new string through Bigsby models eliminate that problem, which I never had a problem with on my old one, but then I never cried about restringing my R-tailpiece Rickenbacker either.

my 5120 is in the shop now getting the bridge pinned. and then I will try out the spoiler and let you all know. I hear good things, tho.

When I see the 'Falcon' headstock on a small bodied guitar it always makes me think of Dean guitars - play authentic -

I installed the string spoiler on our 5120. It looks fine and doesn't change anything...certainly easier to change strings with.

however, I bought a 5422 and changed the strings on it (without a spoiler)...no troubles until the hi e string...but that wasn't much trouble either.

I don't think I'd buy another one (string spoiler, that is. another Gretsch? well, you never know!)

As some of you may remember, I spent way too long building a Gretsch/Telecaster hybrid. I absolutely love the thing & find myself playing it more than my other 2 vintage electrics...

Thats a cool looking guitar!
