I think most people use the typical silver metallic under the candy red. Sometimes you even see gold metallic under candy. I think I achieved this color by using a discontinued Duplicolor shade called Champagne Gold metallic.
I also remember that some time ago, a fellow offsetter here posted a pic of a red compstang with some light but tasteful fading shifting from the vibrant red to bronze right up to the arm contour were the gold was showing thru: it was sublime.
