Re: New Jazzmaster build
I'm thinking I'll get a Fender AV trem with a Staytrem collet and arm, and a regular Jazzmaster bridge with Graphtech saddles.
Any better suggestions?

Good plan. But don't use the Graphtech saddles.

Latest mock-up from the guy doing the body + neck:
This is a cream pickguard and Gotoh bridge.
Still torn between parchment/cream and mint green.

Parchment looks pretty good to me.

Re: New Jazzmaster build
I'm looking for a Trem unit.
I'm following the part nos. in this document: https://www.fmicassets.com/Damroot/Orig ... A_SISD.pdf
The trem assembly is listed as part no. 0054466000
When I search, I find the AVRI trem is part no. 0054466049.
Are these different units?
Thanks,
R.

I don't want to speak for him, but I suspect it's related to grounding. If I recall, the graphtech saddles prevent the strings from being grounded at the bridge. You can ground the trem plate instead and it'll probably work fine, but it's not as solid of a connection to the strings.robinbowes wrote: ↑Mon Jul 08, 2019 3:03 pmWhy? I'm quite a fan of Graphtech stuff - I have their saddles on a Strat, a Tele, and a Pacifica 311MS.

EDIT: Apparently they also cause an unwanted loss of frequencies, although if you already use them on your other guitars, this may not be a big deal to you:

If you look at the description on Darren's site, he mentions that the two part numbers are the same. Not sure why the number changed - maybe they tweaked some small aspect of it.

Yeah, I'm aware of that and no, it's not a big deal. My Strat sounds stratty, my Tele and 311MS are still spikey on the bridge pickup.alexpigment wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2019 7:08 amEDIT: Apparently they also cause an unwanted loss of frequencies, although if you already use them on your other guitars, this may not be a big deal to you:

I'll be getting a good quality bridge with metal saddles and replacing with the Graphtech so I will be able to compare/contrast.

Maybe I'll have to put an order in with Darren as the AVRI Trem is not easy to get here in the UK.

Re: New Jazzmaster build
I have change of a Gold anodized pickguard, complete with wiring loom.
Anyone got any pics of gold on gold to help me decide if it will work?
Thanks!

Got some different knobs to fit in with the gold theme:
I believe they are known as "tea cup" knobs, from Hohner guitars.
I shall see how they look on the Jazzmaster.

How did these look? I saw some on eBay recently, and was intrigued by them, but the mock up image the seller put up, made them look like they didn't cover over the nut.robinbowes wrote: ↑Wed Aug 21, 2019 2:19 pmGot some different knobs to fit in with the gold theme:
