I'd guess that pickup connects to a separate output for the bass strings, which is fed into an octave pedal, allowing the guitar player to play some bass lines. I've heard of that before... it's kind of cool.
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

An OC3 can do that. but this is more appealing.

I want to say that the guy from Local H does this, I definitely have read about a guitarist in a band I like doing that.

Here's a video of his guitar/bass technique, I haven't watched it to see if I'm accurate at all about him using the bass pickup thing:

yep i remember seeing/reading about this in a 90s Guitar World magazine... it was a wonderful dark blue strat.
i love delay SO much ...that i procrastinate all the time.

Yeah, wow, I was right! It was Scott Lucas from Local H. Can't believe I remembered that.

I had an album of theirs, it was pretty good.

I also remember reading that article and I also remember it being a blue strat! I would never have remembered the name of the band though.

Charlie Hunter has been doing this (and inspiringly well) since the early 90s.
