The guitar scene in Spinal Tap, that was with Norm's Rare Guitars (think Nigel wears a shirt once). So he has been doing the guitar porn thing since back then.

The video is incredible!
Knowing that most of those huge storage boxes contain vintage guitars is mind-blowing.
No wonder the young guys are jumping around!
I think Norman has every right to store them. He is an astute businessman but also a real guitar lover.
At least he has a shop where he eventually sells them and not just collect them hide them away forever.

On a side note, I'd never watched the GOTD videos before and I have to say the guy Lemmo has a beautiful playing style.
Very inspiring.

I've stoipped watching GOTD since Agnesi left ... it had occured to me that i was more interested in learning about the techincal details of the instrument (options, built dates, issues, history) than listening to what it sounds like. Lemmo is a good player, but has very little knowledge of what he is playing/selling.

this doesn't bother me at all. i mean, it's a bit ridiculous, but i had no trouble finding my own classic JM and Jag for what i feel was a very fair price, even while hoarding was apparently well underway. but good deals still happen today. and just when you think there may be slim pickins left from a crazy vintage market, stuff like this pops up - it's only gonna help the scene.

i don't know Norm personally, but i've noticed that he and his staff have been more relaxed about making deals in recent years. i used to go there in the 90's and early 00's just to learn about the old stuff. but the price tags were so intimidating, i never even tried to buy something. these days, i've had two different friends make some very fair shakes on 100% original guitars. maybe he realized this is finally the time to lighten the load. i hope that trend continues. i'm looking forward to making a little scratch off of a batch of oddball guitars that i won't really need for gigs and enjoyment in the future. i could be Norm For a Day! maybe even a week. and that will be plenty - i don't think i want to be a full time merchant.

Lemmo is a good player, but has very little knowledge of what he is playing/selling.

I’m the opposite. I prefer hearing the guitars played in more than just old rock riffs (so much Stones).

I did enjoy Agnesi’s knowledge and do miss that, but I can always read about a model I’m interested in.

Edit: Also, Agnesi always made fun of offsets and claimed to hate them, but would always get a good sound out of them and you could tell he enjoyed it (except for Jags, he hates them for some reason.)

Similar to how I feel about GOTD as well really, Agnesi was great but Lemmo really has a fantastic style that I enjoy listening to probably more than I liked the facts. Lemmo seems like a really top guy as well, gives off a great vibe.

Also, to be honest, even Agnesi ended up parroting the same facts after a while. I just liked the way he delivered those facts - clear, honest & passionate. He loved what he did & I wonder how much he's missing his old job, regardless of the pay difference (I'm loving life at the moment after taking a huge hit financially).

I kinda miss Jen's innuendos & background mumblings when there's talk of "width" and all that shit. Yeah, it was pretty purile but it was clear they were having a proper laugh with it all. Nothing ever felt too serious. You can see that Lemmo's the blushing type though. Bless!

Lemmo's a completely different character & now that he's settled in he's made it his own. He's an incredibly humble & talented guy who's not ashamed or embarrassed to show genuine emotion (his friend dying recently was a bit of a choker to watch). Respect.

Edibles At Night though? Hmmm. I guess I'm OK with the new Thursday dynamic (hearing just isolated bass was always pretty duff, let's face it) but they're kinda silly. The other guy does add something different at other times, I suppose, & almost fills the Agnesi knowledge gap, every now & then.

Flattop Friday is still my favourite.

Is it possibly because you are just getting older and now know more than these young whippersanppers ?
