Any fiddlers in the house?

Violinists welcome as well!

I’m a new-ass player but it seems to be coming fairly well. It’s been a couple months and I’ve experienced great joy and sorrow from this damn thing! YouTube has been super helpful and I have a few friends who play in town who have helped me. The hardest part so far is playing in front of any amount of people!

Anyway, I’m just curious if there’s any other violinists/fiddlers here and please feel free to say hi and drop me some advice, if you like!

Violin was my first instrument. I took lessons for about 14 years. I just have a cheap viola now, but it’s fun to break out for recording.

If I were more ambitious I’d probably get my playing and recording chops back up and offer my services to others, but as it is it takes some time to play shit in tune. My vibrato is still there though, which was what took the longest to learn.

I played violin for a few years. Never really got anywhere special with it, but I can still play. Sometimes I think it would be fun to get an electric one and see what I can do with that.

Ugh, it took me ages before I could wiggle the note instead of wiggling the entire neck. It carried over into guitar, too. I've never been one to do vibrato by bending the string, it just feels to unnatural to me, having learned to do it on the violin. I prefer the sound that way, too.

Violin as first instrument here too - fourth grade through high school (yay school music programs).

Nowadays I’m pretty comparatively rusty, but still have great grandma’s acoustic and a Bridge Lyra electric five string.

Yeah. I do this too. Probably a combination of my violin background and listening to Tom Verlaine a lot.
