Re: The Synth Thread...
Ohhhhh... I never get too much of Todd's Tidy Keyboard Korner (tm). That really is a nice space full of nice things arranged nicely. Seeing that lovely Prophet perched atop the Rhodes like that just made me think of Matt Johnson, the guy who plays keys for Jamiroquai. He makes very nice videos playing and demonstrating his various keyboards, and he did one a few days ago of Rhodes and Moog. Just some really nicely played, soulful jamming. Worth a watch, as is his Moog one video.
The Prophet... man, what a great synth. If it's good enough for Hall and Oates and YMO... Happy new synth day, Todd.

Re: The Synth Thread...
Thanks Steven! It may just be the perfect synth for me. I'm definitely trying to get used to it on its own before adding a ton of stuff, but from everything I've heard, it seems that Moogs need a reverb at minimum to get that really epic sound. Though I might try a fuzz on it tomorrow I do eventually want to get into Eurorack properly (random modules as opposed to a specific sound like I was attempting before), but what might be fun is to have modules that work as effects or modulation for the Matriarch. AJH makes a 12-stage phaser called the Next Phase which sounds killer. But for now, I'm just trying to see how the Matriarch works on its own. That will probably take a whileStevenO wrote: ↑Tue Sep 24, 2019 2:36 amWoah, J and Todd. Amazing stuff!
J, glad you got the Matriarch. It seems like the perfect synth for you. There's so much available there for you to work with. A lot of synth lines are surprisingly, and thankfully, easy to play so you'll have a relatively easy time getting something truly musical out of it, for sure . Effects definitely help as well, mostly reverbs and delays, but see what you can get out of the synth without at kind of external modulation too!
Thanks Maggie! It's been a lot of fun to play with so far. Every time I turn it on, I'm just blown away by how much it can do and the variety of sounds, even from changing just the oscillators a bit.
I don't know if you saw this when I posted it a couple days ago, but Moog/Lisa Bella Donna posted a video where she plays a Grandmother AND a Matriarch and they sound GLORIOUS together.

Thank you! I'd literally just finished watching that Matt Johnson video before reading Megan's comment.
I'm having a blast with the Prophet. I think it's going to take me some time before I fully understand it, but I LOVE the fact there's no menu diving and every function has a respective knob or button out in the open to better help visual people (like me) understand what's going on. In the meantime, I've uploaded the OMOM soundset from the DSI site, and purchased a couple others I thought might be good jumping off points.
The cool thing about fretless is you can hit a note...and then renegotiate.

Its not much but its a start
Im running TidalCycles on Debian, what would be cheap and simple way to get it in sync with Skulpt and Circuit?
Midi interface or just simple usb-midi cable, or something else?

As much as I just want Behringer to release their OB synth, their new Korg MS-20 clone looks really interesting!

Between that and the new Roland JU-06a? Gas is brewing but also *shrug*

Re: The Synth Thread...
You guys have much cooler rigs than me!
Pulled these out of the closet this weekend. A friend asked me to come up with a "Aldo Nova/1984"/EV150/Holy Diver" sort of intro for one of his songs so I spent the better part of yesterday morning trying to come up with something. I'm getting somewhere but it's not quite there yet. On my desk I have the rig run through an Echo Park and an Alesis Ineko.

Re: The Synth Thread...
I dunno, you can already get a Korg clone of that Korg, so really I wish they'd prioritize that OB more. Considering how many other clones they've burped up over the last year or so.StevenO wrote: ↑Mon Sep 30, 2019 4:48 amAs much as I just want Behringer to release their OB synth, their new Korg MS-20 clone looks really interesting!

The Korg is meh, and the Behringer will most likely be better and in a better form factor.mackerelmint wrote: ↑Mon Sep 30, 2019 12:38 pmI dunno, you can already get a Korg clone of that Korg, so really I wish they'd prioritize that OB more. Re: The Synth Thread...
Well, yeah, the form factor's better. I dunno if they can fix the meh, though, the MS-20 is all kinds of meh if you ask me. Cloning it can't help much.

Re: The Synth Thread...
I like them. I think they're surprisingly musical in a mix, but on their own they don't necessarily have that "thing" to them that say a Model D does.
Air uses the MS-20 a fair bit for those vocal/vowel-like lines, similar to Daft Punk, and Arcade Fire (not that i'm a huge fan) uses them a lot and live the one guy uses two of them and it sounds fantastic. So... *shrug*

Re: The Synth Thread...
I'd love to hear how the two play together.
I had a hard time getting my Moog Prodigy and 106 playing together, mostly as they have completely 'tonal texture' (for lack of a better phrase) to them. But my Behringer Model D works super nicely with the 106, for some reason.

Re: The Synth Thread...
I would think that the completely different sound textures would play really nicely together. I'd probably use one for arpeggios/sequences and the other for melody.
