NGD 1965 Fender Mustang faded daphne blue

Post by supersonicjazzmaster » Sat Oct 05, 2019 6:55 am

A few of new remembered that I was looking for a 1965 Mustang.
Finally I found the one I wanted and bought it at Mike & Mikes Guitarbar.
Definitely not a cheapo... but worth every cent.
It is a daphne blue slab board. Faded into the nice green on most areas of the body.
It came with a very good setup! I´ve spent her 11-50 chromes. Everything works fine with the setup it came!
It´s a lightweight one under 3 kilogramms. The neck is a fat C I would say.
The pickguard looks vintage white but it´s a pearl white. Not possible to get realistic pics of this...
Sound: What can I say? Since I have got it I played every gig with it (about 5 or 6?).
Normally w. Jags or Jazzmasters I play always always both pickups for best thick surf sound.
But with the Mustang I play meanwhile mostly the bridge pickup. It sounds thicker than on my Jags and not trebly.
It´s not the Jag and not the JM sound, it´s the Mustang sound. :-*
The Mustang stays perfect in tune for a nearly whole gig even abusing the trem unit. :)
I love the color, the overall feeling is so nice! ...it´s soooo easy to play!
The neck has in the pocket area a repaired part. I asked at Mikes guitarbar for this before and they told me it doesn´t affect playing.
I am ok with this, all is perfect with this guitar. It is repaired professional, yes.

I came to the 1965 Mustang wish because somewhere here on OSG it was often mentioned that the 65´s are the best.
So thanks for suggestions her to OSG!

First pic is from a gig this week. Guitar into reverb, from reverb into amp, that´s it. :)

What an amazing set up!

I consider this the perfect Mustang these days.
Plain finish, nothing too flashy like the CompStangs.
Plenty of honest wear in all the right places.
Slab neck. I bet it's really comfy too.
That amazing shade of greeny blue.

Congratulations!
You think you can't, you wish you could, I know you can, I wish you would. Slip inside this house as you pass by.

Congrats! She's a beauty - agree, great rig, too - I'm all about the outboard reverb unit. 8)

Damn a Twin Amp! I almost traded my 61 Showman for one but backed out at the end. I always wonder 'what if...'

I'm purely a Showman into outboard reverb unit with a Jaguar or Fender XII. A setup similar to yours!

Edit: I see you ARE a surf guy! Cool man! Are you a member of www.SurfGuitar101.com ? Cool dudes there!

Sounds good! Yes, I play Surf. I have three main amps and 5 tanks... I play a ´63 Twin Amp, a ´61 VibraSonic Amp, a ´61 Showman Amp :)
Very happy with those amps! ...I still miss a 61 Bandmaster with orig. cab.

Ralf - it’s DeathTide from SG101. First off - congrats on that insane Mustang! I have a question for you: is your Vibrasonic basically a perfect lower-volume substitute for your ‘61 Showman?

I’ve been gassing super hard for a brown vibrasonic. I already have a ‘62 Twin and ‘62 Showman (and of course multiple old brown tanks), but I’ve always been curious if the Vibrasonic 15” has that “deep surf” thump for muted low E business?

It's kind of related to your question, I too as a surf musician await the reply about the Vibrasonic... But my roommate has a 62 Pro amp (single 15 inch speaker) that sounds so incredible. I prefer my 61 Showman, of course.. but these are similar amps and I can attest to the low bottom end. He dumped a real-deal JBL in there (you already know them ;)) And man - it sings. I'm considering picking it up from him.

Now, please, about that Vibrasonic...
