Fender is going back into shred this NAMM...
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

Aww, I kind of liked it.
Not enough to ever buy one, though. I don't like Fender very much at the moment and if I wanted a shred guitar there's literally tens of thousands of them out there. I could just get a Jem or something.

Sorry. It literally is just me.
Every time I see that "Pep"-py colour, that's what I think of.

Fender seems to be throwing a lot of things at the wall this NAMM, don't they?

There's not one thing I like about that guitar. Absolutely fucking hideous in every sense of the word. I don't even particularly like maple necks but if I did I'm pretty sure the easiest way to fuck it up would be to paint the headstock black. Badabing!
You think you can't, you wish you could, I know you can, I wish you would. Slip inside this house as you pass by.

Doesn't Fender own Charvel/Jackson for the very purpose of making shred guitars?

They are ‘limited,’ at least for now. I always thought they were sort of cool.Lamar Fandango wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2020 9:54 amDoesn't Fender own Charvel/Jackson for the very purpose of making shred guitars?
King Buzzo: I love when people come up to me and say “Your guitar sound was better on Stoner Witch, when you used a Les Paul. “...I used a Fender Mustang reissue on that, dumbass!

Well, OK, but I could get a guitar just like that down at the pawn shop down the road for a lot less money.
This is an excellent rectangle

Fender has way too many nice designs to ever bother putting a Floyd on anything.
The colour is fine, the pickguardless HSS Floydness of it is just plain silly.
Plenty of nice things they've made don't have current reissues, they don't need to revive this.
Now, a Performer reissue with the covered splittable HBs? Now that is an 80's design worth revisiting.

Don’t underestimate the power of nostalgia. I was a teenager when the HM strat and similar guitars were in their hey-day. I never liked them, but i must admit that seeing them now i do feel a pang of nostalgic fondness, because of the time they remind me of. You might not see many bearded hipsters playing them (unless they become ironically “cool”) but i reckon there will be blokes in their 40s ready to throw cash at these. If the article is correct in saying that only 300 have been made, i think they will sell them all easily.

Hard pass.
The cool thing about fretless is you can hit a note...and then renegotiate.

A friend of mine has one of the original HMs from the 80s (his is a burgundy /dark pink colour). It was his first "decent" guitar. It's ugly as shit, but I must conceed for what it is it's not a bad guitar and it does play nicely. They've cut a few corners on this reissue - mainly the trem (this is according to my friend, I would have no idea). I also have to wonder whether the reissue plays anything like the original...
At the end of the day, if you've got big hair, wear spandex and like to play pinch harmonics, this guitar is likely for you.
Otherwise .... probably give it a miss (easy to do since I hear they're only making 500).

Re: Fender is going back into shred this NAMM...
I think they're onto something reissuing them.
IIRC Ibanez reissued the neon colored RGs and JEMs recently, and they seemed to sell pretty well. There's a market for fluorescent guitars, and I personnally find 'heavy' (meaning humbuckers, floyd roses etc) guitars funnier when they're done tongue in cheek like this rather than with either matte black finishes or figured wood and gaudy abalone binding all over (looking at the recent BC Rich rebranding, ugh).
The color matching swoosh on the headstock is a pretty nice touch, and ties it wellto the whole "solo cup" aesthetic of 90s nostalgia.
My main concern is that the black hardware and pickups look pretty tame, but it's supposed to be a faithful reissue so... I still would have preferred cooler looking pickups, with mismatched bobbins, or cool covers, etc..
