Thinline Coromaster
I'm starting a thread to hold myself accountable to finishing this project. The tuners are the only part I'm still missing, and those are on their way in the mail, so let's get this party started.
This project came together as I was looking for a good home for a vintage Coronado neck I picked up from forumite will. I had acquired a set of Fralin Twangmasters from smalltownsongs earlier last year, but hadn't settled on a body. Then, a number of months later, he posted an MJT-finished blonde thinline body that spoke to me, and it was HH so it fit the pickups. The combination of black F-hole/pickguard/Mastery looked like it would fit with the black Coro headstock, and I prefer to match vintage necks to at least light-relic nitro bodies to keep the finish consistent, so this fit the bill...I just can't bring myself to bolt a vintage neck to a glossy poly or even a pristine nitro body.
Here's a quick snap of the neck and body together. I'm gonna get the pickups wired up next, while waiting on the tuners.

Is that really a thin line? It looks like an f hole sticker...

Yep, the interior of the body is sprayed black which provides the extra contrast. I'll take a photo at another angle.ChrisDesign wrote: ↑Sat Jan 18, 2020 7:19 amIs that really a thin line? It looks like an f hole sticker...
Thank ye kindly
Thanks, they're pretty great but I can't claim credit for having good taste, everything one the body came as a package. I believe they're NOS Starcaster lmobs, they have thr Fender "F" stamped in the tops which you can't really see in that photo, and they are pretty darn nice.

Here, took a photo with the flash on, looking obliquely into the f hole.ChrisDesign wrote: ↑Sat Jan 18, 2020 7:19 amIs that really a thin line? It looks like an f hole sticker...
The edges of the top are painted black and the interior of the body is black as well - gives an extremely clean and dark appearance to the hole from just about all angles. Nice finishing job by MJT.

Re: Thinline Coromaster
I think I’m in love! I would add Jazzmaster pickups to this over Humbuckers. As the guitar is already made for Humbuckers, I bet the Fralin Twangmasters will sound epic.
This is my Jazzmaster HH wiring that gives me every tone from twang to smooth Jazz: Use a 500k volume pot with a Treble bleed, a 250k tone pot with a 0.1uF capacitor, Coil splitting on the tone pot with a push pull pot. This is with a Seymour Duncan jazz neck and JB bridge.
I know this combination sounds odd, but to my ear it is perfection. I once swapped the 250k tone pot for a 500k tone pot and the magic was gone! I play smashing pumpkins, foo fighters, etc. After putting a Fender 250k push pull back in the magic came back. The tone was smoother but still about to cut through a mix, the pot response was perfect, I can dial in every tone I desire effortlessly, and I couldn’t be happier.

I spent more than a few moments wondering what became of that black/silver Mastery set - thinking about how great it would look on my own Coronado/JM project. This would be my second choice...

Wow, I love the looks of this. Great color combo so far. Especially digging the black painted F-hole. That's something I never would have thought to try myself, but it looks so darn good.

This is phe-fucking-nomenal. I can't really imagine that you're going to need all that much motivation to finish this project because it's going to be the balls.
