Not a whole lot to report - the move of the bridge holes is completed. Drilled the holes and installed the pickguard for a test fit. I have the avri trem and bridge installed now.
Strung it up with some 11s and did a partial setup. I need to widen a couple of nut slots for the 11s and shim the neck a little bit. Otherwise it's playing really well already.
I'm ordering the pickups and other electronics today, still need to shield it and wire it up but it should be ready to plug in early next week.
The plastics are just laid on it so I can see the overall look

Where did you get that body from?
Seems weird that the bridge holes are drilled slightly wrong...

It was in the UK - Northwest Guitars. I believe it was not 'wrong' but likely made to japan fender specs,though I've never played a CIJ JM. I probably didn't HAVE to move the bridge, but doing so didn't hurt anything, and now my US pickguard fits. finding a japan pickguard made of celluloid seemed way more difficult, and I didn't want to vastly modify the pickguard I had.

That does look good. The tort is just the right color for the CAR.

That looks great. I agree with the approach you took with the bridge, especially as it worked in hindsight
The placement of the bridge posts relative to the pickguard look like it could also be Squier VM-spec. But I can’t see any issue coming up with intonation this way; good job keeping it all centered.

I'm getting the pickups and the pots/switches/caps/other electronic hardware today so I should have it plugged in and playing tonight hopefully!
Last night I shielded it - this is going to be a beautiful guitar once I'm finished!
I opted to shield it with tape rather than buying those pre-made brass parts, while the brass is more vintage correct, this method is less expensive by quite a bit , and should be more thorough at creating a Faraday cage. I did my Bass VI like this and it's super silent for a single coil. One day I'll take every single coil guitar and bass I own apart and shield them all like this.

Good job. I shield all my single coil guitars with copper tape. It really is the best way to go.

It plays beautifully and looks even more beautiful!
I may change the tone cap to a higher value for a darker tone - I believe my American Original has a .1uf where this is .033uf - the pure vintage schematics show a .1uf cap as well.
The Candy Apple Red is not easy to photograph.

Carving your own body is loads of fun. The tools to make a neck will pay for a small handful of necks. It's a whole lot easier to just order a Warmoth neck for $200-300 and be done with it. I suppose I'll have to do that one day, though...

Yes, I should def. start with just a body first. I think carving a neck right out of the gate would be a bad idea. Would be very rewarding though!

The trouble is, as you make one you come up with other design ideas that you just
have to try. When I finished my first one, I had three more in the planning stages.
