Huge Neil Finn fan from back in the day. Covered a few Crowded House songs over the years.
My favourite Finn Brothers song though is probably Six Months in a Leaky Boat.
And this version is fantastic: https://youtu.be/3xsemGVR42s

I'll throw in "Private Universe" from the album Together Alone. Great album & great track.

Neil Finn’s been doing some really nice little online radio shows over recent months, plus some socially distanced band performances.... https://www.neilfinn.com/
Also, I would strongly recommend the 7 Worlds Collide Live at the Powerstation film that came out last year (of a series of concerts 10 years previous) - Several Finns with lumps of Wilco, Radiohead, Marr, and more.

Agreed, I enjoyed that film quite a lot.Bradley-Jazz wrote: ↑Tue Jul 07, 2020 2:22 pmAlso, I would strongly recommend the 7 Worlds Collide Live at the Powerstation film that came out last year (of a series of concerts 10 years previous) - Several Finns with lumps of Wilco, Radiohead, Marr, and more.

Re: The Brothers Finn - Split Enz/Crowded House/Etc.
In the mid to late 70s Split Enz were a staple on the pub-gigs circuit in Melbourne … I recall seeing them many times on drunken Friday and Saturday nights along with the other bands of that era: Mother Goose (also from NZ and who also dressed up), Mondo Rock, Cold Chisel, The Sports, Dragon (from NZ), Jon English, Midnight Oil, ACDC, Mental As Anything, Skyhooks, Richard Clapton, Ol' 55, Jo Jo Zep & The Falcons, The Angels, The Radiators, Australian Crawl, Rose Tattoo … and many others .
But for a classic Split Enz track you cannot go past: I SEE RED

Some of Tim Finns' solo stuff (after he left the enz in the early 80s) is also pretty good.
Here's a happy song by Tim:

That's the song that hooked me, and I've been a fan of the Finns ever since.seenoevil II wrote: ↑Mon Jun 01, 2020 8:26 pm"Six Months in a Leaky Boat" is a few percent points of my soul. First exposed through Ted Leo's cover. Absolute banger.
It probably has to do with timing, but Split Enz is *my* go-to for the brothers Finn. CH is beautiful pop music, but the Enz had an experimental edge to them that I latched onto.

Yeah I have to agree. I've been impressed with the Crowded House stuff I've been listening to but it's very much "Adult contemporary" type of music at times so I gotta be in the mood. SE's herky jerky New Wave (espec. the Neil songs) meanwhile is something I'm always in the mood for.Maggieo wrote: ↑Wed Jul 08, 2020 9:10 amThat's the song that hooked me, and I've been a fan of the Finns ever since.seenoevil II wrote: ↑Mon Jun 01, 2020 8:26 pm"Six Months in a Leaky Boat" is a few percent points of my soul. Also, if anyone hasn't seen this more recent performance of Neil with a string section in Auckland, very much worth your time:

Re: The Brothers Finn - Split Enz/Crowded House/Etc.
Not to take away from Tim & Neil, but of all the projects by ex-Split Enz-ers, my favourite by far is Schnell Fenster. If you favour the quirky, experimental side of SE, you might appreciate what these guys did. The band included Phil Judd, who co-founded SE with Tim, and provided a lot of that early-period "otherness" in the songwriting and performance (and cover art in the case of Mental Notes). Noel Crombie also, who was responsible for SE's look with the make-up, hair, suits etc, and Nigel Griggs on bass. Eddie Rayner on keyboards was on board for a short time also. I find it easy to see them as the band SE might have transitioned into had the personnel changes shaken out differently. They recorded two albums.
Check out these vids- not hard to see the thread that joins the two bands. Very strong emphasis on the visuals with Noel and Phil on board, looks like a Noel tour de force here- on either or both of these vids, not just the clothes, but also the drums, guitars, even the straps.
(Strong songs too btw )

...not to mention that Split Enz drummer Paul Crowther invented the Hotcake!
"I'm nostalgic for conversations I had yesterday. I've begun reminiscing events before they even occur. I'm reminiscing this right now. I can't go to the bar because I've already looked back on it in my memory, and I didn't have a good time."

Re: The Brothers Finn - Split Enz/Crowded House/Etc.
Isn't the actual translation "Faster Window"?
Judd has done some amazing stuff, The Swingers, Schnell Fenster, soundtracks for lots of Australian movies.
But he's a complete nutcase.
I'm actually doings some work this week involving CH which should be interesting.
