Re: Bass VI - String Options
I’d almost given up on ever seeing these strings - thought they were forever lost in a postal black hole - but they turned up yesterday after a two month trip from Germany to Australia! Must have been sent surface mail.JVG wrote: ↑Sun Feb 21, 2021 3:48 amN0_Camping4U wrote: ↑Sat Feb 20, 2021 7:48 pmI wish I could get heavier flats than any of these offered. I have the La Bella flats, but still wish I could get thicker flats. I wonder why there are some roundwound sets that are thicker, but not flatwounds. Anyone else ever feel like this? Is there such a thing as custom stringers?
Pyramid will make a custom set of flats, so try them. I don’t know what their upper limit on gauge is, but worth trying.
I’ve actually got them making a custom set for me at the moment (with a 98 on the lowE)
Email your enquiry to Max at PYRAMID@JUNGER.DE
He usually responds within a day or so.
Haven’t put them on yet, but first thing to note is that the actual gauges (written on the packets) are not quite what i requested. At the time of ordering, Max advised me that they couldn’t guarantee the exact gauge (not sure why, since presumably it’s all computer-controlled), so that’s ok - i think they are acceptably close and i appreciate him being upfront about it.
Came with a couple of nice booklets and some picks.

Re: Bass VI - String Options
Has anybody of you experience with these? Probably some audio? I found some NOS of these at a German online shop with a very steep price close to EUR 80,00. I'm a big fan of the 767-6Fs but I'm really curious how they will differ in sound.JVG wrote: Sets “767-6B” (black) and “767-6W” (white): nylon tape wound over metal core. (These have been discontinued, though a few shops still have old stock).
If anybody in Europe is interested I have 4 packs NOS from 2017 - feel free to PM. They solve of course the issue with the sloppy E and A strings but personally I don't like them but this is not because they're bad - they're not - roundwounds just aren't my preference.JVG wrote: Fender (Bass) VI strings.
“Super 250’s Bass VI”: roundwound nickel-plated steel (hex core), gauges 24-34-44-65-80-100. Note the heavy low end. This set is elusive, and possibly out of production. Price US $15.

Re: Bass VI - String Options
The La Bella website is no longer offering custom-gauged VI strings. Bummer.

You can add these to your list:
Ernie Ball Slinky, nickel wound, part # 2837
Gauge 20, 30, 42, 54, 74, 90
Relatively inexpensive.
I find that I break the 20s a lot during assembly, set-up and intonation, so I have bought a several singles for spares.

Re: Bass VI - String Options
What do we think the biggest, or biggest and still safest flatwound Bass VI strings that'll fit into the posts and be a drop in replacement?

So Pyramid can do:
.030 .040 .050 .060 .080 .100 or 1.05
They can make bigger too. But I don't want to go too big and have it cause damage or strings be unable to fit into the posts. Hoping someone has some info or a safe custom gauge to make.

Also you might over-torque the neck?N0_Camping4U wrote: ↑Wed Apr 27, 2022 4:00 amSo Pyramid can do:

Re: Bass VI - String Options
Yeah exactly, that's what I'm trying to avoid. I think the La Bellas are still a little too loose. I'd like them ideally bigger/tight. But I don't want to have to mod the posts or anything. Looking for a safe, no mod drop in higher gauge set.Jaguar018 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 27, 2022 5:33 amAlso you might over-torque the neck?N0_Camping4U wrote: ↑Wed Apr 27, 2022 4:00 amSo Pyramid can do:

Re: Bass VI - String Options
Does anyone make a half-round set for the Bass VI?
If I was a byrd, I'd be mighty sore every time they shut the door and I don't think I'd sing...

Re: Bass VI - String Options
I don’t think so, at least not that I’ve seen in my (reasonably extensive) research.

Re: Bass VI - String Options
I guess you're right. I thought of cobbling one together with a set of bass strings and the 26 and 35 from a guitar set. But the general consensus is that the bass strings won't fit.
I ordered a set of flats.
thanks

Re: Bass VI - String Options
The LaBella flats came in...I took off the old strings and oiled the fretboard a little.
When I went to restring, it seems like the strings are short...?
Will the string "catch" like this?

Re: Bass VI - String Options
Yes, there is a taper on the end so it's easier to wind around the tuner post.
