Yeah I know, me too... Those old ones are amazing and still cheap, some even have output tubes and all.
I do have an Earth Sound Research carcass ripoff laying around, that's a clone of a Peavey...

Almost mentioned that there was a Roland 'clone' just like the Ampeg SS140c called Peavey Stereo Chorus

...I think the only exception I'd make was if I ran across a Randall Commander head. Been always intrigued by them, and they look so cool!

Re: My obsession: 70s solid-state amps (outta control)
I almost forgot I have one... Novanex Automatic 6.
I bought it years ago together with the Japanese guitar in the pic. I paid €50 for both(!)
I didn't really want the amp, but the seller insisted... and it turned out to be way nicer than I though ― much better than the crappy guitar. Sounds pretty good for a 6W practice amp.
It currently resides at my parents', so I have something to plug into when I visit. Hence the crappy pic ― that's the only one I could find at the moment.
I'm also a huge fan of those big 70s Yamaha SS amps... There's been a G100/410 for sale in my area for ages, but I already have too many amps and too little space.

I really want an old HH IC-100.
What’s the difference between the 3 (?) versions?
IC-100
IC-100S
IC-100L

Apparently they're quite different beasts. All have 2 channels.OffYourFace wrote: ↑Tue Feb 07, 2023 9:29 amAtt: Pat

Can't check right now but outta free memory:
IC100 has the output selection switch (studio/live) which is an amazing feature. It has the sustain (overdrive) on/off switch, you can't really regulate it. Has spring reverb and tremolo (speed/depth). That was used on Pink Floyd's Meddle (Echoes) on Water's bass. It's also the Marc Bolan amp, the most sought after, and I believe they all have the selectable voltage on the back.
The IC100L was the last version iirc. It has the "Harmonic" control Pot, which basically is overdrive. Master reverb.
The IC100S i believe was the 1st or 2nd one, dunno, it's all confusing. It's in the other room and I'm in bed already but I'll send pics and info tomorrow.
...but my tip: get a (far more common) V-S Musician. It's the Marr amp, Big Country, i believe Dr. Feelgood, Bauhaus, etc.

Re: My obsession: 70s solid-state amps (outta control)
I appreciate it, thank you! I have the PA head that I bought from a UK member long ago... something with 'bear' in his name/handle. I forget I've basically just kept it for spare parts for when I find an IC-100.
Interesting! I want one cuz of Daniel Ash tbh and always read it was an IC-100S. I'll have to study pics of his now....but my tip: get a (far more common) V-S Musician. It's the Marr amp, Big Country, i believe Dr. Feelgood, Bauhaus, etc.
Is that also the Jason Spaceman amp? 2x12 combo of course

I don't have a Peavey either. It was my first amp, tho'!

You just said the magic words
Pretty sure Buzzcocks and Undertones used V-S Musicians too, although I can't imagine they all sound crazily different from the IC100s.

There's a cool lookin 4x10 Kustom Hustler on CL here... Made me think of this thread! I'm on a spending freeze so I can't get it, but it's only $300. Probably sounds awesome.

As for info, here's quite a chaotic page with good info on history and models: http://www.majelectronic.co.uk/
Though he really does diss the 100L a lot.
There's a great HH Appreciation group on Facebook, check it out!

Re: My obsession: 70s solid-state amps (outta control)
As OSGs resident Kustom King these days, this one's hot. A 2nd-gen, I believe while Bud Ross was still with the company (slanted front, blue push-button power switch).
I played the earlier 4x10 combo iteration in a punk band post-college. Grounding problems led to a zap or two over the six months or so I was in that band. But as a borrowed amp with a cheap Tele, it clanged and zinged. Champagne-looking sparkle, too.
With that vinyl in the shape it is, I encourage you to hold tight to your spending freeze, but damn, I hope someone gives that a good home.
