CIJ Jaguar Rebuild

Post by Firefly » Thu Jan 25, 2007 1:16 pm

Hey guys,
I recently came across a CIJ Jaguar Body and I am starting to slowly put it back together. It's a sunburst and will end up with an abalone pickguard and I may end up getting a Warmoth neck with abalone dot inlays... but that would be some months away. right now I want to try and get the wiring sorted.

However I have a question about it. I have seen on the older Jaguars and on the schematics that they have these brass grounding plates on the control cavitys. Are they used on the CIJ's aswell? I know my body has a sheilding paint in the cavitys, so I take it that the ground connections are meant to go to the back of a pot and out to the bridge and jacksocket like a strat. Or am I wrong!? Thanks, any help would be much appreciated guys!!

It may definitely vary from year to year. But my CIJ Jag, which I believe to have been built in 2001-3, has the ground wire wrapped around a screw that holds the tremolo plate to the body. I saw no solder marks or metallic goo in there, so my assumption was that this was a factory solution. Although, the bridge pickup had been upgraded before it came into my hands, so I have no way of knowing for certain.

Hmm, maybe I should just experiment with it and see what happens!

AFAIK the CIJ offsets didn't have all the bits of brass pickup and cavity shielding. Aftermarket replacements are pretty cheap to buy so you might like to fit them, or people have had success with copper shielding tape or just buying a thin sheet of brass (I got mine from a model making supply store) and cutting their own.

i think the shielding paint works pretty good. i remember someone adding copper foil to all the cavities of his CIJ, and apparently it didn´t make much difference.

My CIJ Jaguar most definitely has brass shielding plates. They were installed by the factory. BTW, the guitar dates to 1997-98 (an A0... serial)

I think my body was from a 2004 CIJ it was probably something they changed in production to cut costs. I think the price of brass has been going up in the last few years so it's probably a lot cheaper and quicker to spray some fancy paint into it.

Though still unsure as to what that means for the wiring when I get round to it. All of the jag wiring diagrams I find seem to show the grounding from each of the control panels going to those plates. Maybe I'll just ground them somewhere else or make some DIY plates up but it'll be a few months before I get that far.

In other news I have got all the control panels and the abalone pickguard screwed onto it. Will post up some pics when I get time for anyone interested in seeing what a sunburst body and abalone pickguard look like together.

Actualy I think I have finally found what I was after...

I nice clear wiring schematic, no confusion over brass plates and a lot better then whats up on fender's website! Though I think the only thing missing is a wire to the trem. Hopefully I'll have something playable in a few months!

my CIJ Jaguar is from 96 and it does have shielding, it varries from guitar to guitar unfortunatly.
