Finally replaced the tuners

As i said in other threads,the F tuners were bent enough to cause problems tuning,and then i broke one trying to straighten it.
So...i got some replacements,i decided to go with gotoh klusons rather than F tuners as i much prefer these.
They fit nicely, i had to pre drill the screw holes to mount them,and other than one hole at the end you cant see the old F tuner holes.
I left the orig bushings in as I'll probably age the new tuners eventually anyways.
It's so good now,never thought I'd feel so strongly about tuners but when they don't work right its the pits, things like this make ya realize how important each little part is on a guitar.

good job! It looks nice, and is barely noticeable too. Did the new tuners slot right in, or did you have to do any major drilling?

I too prefer the vintage style tuners to the F ones, and your job looks well done...

                                          ...but I personnaly could never drill new holes in a vintage neck.

I guess this kinda does open up the debate about keeping it original vs. having it as a functional guitar. I'm fairly utilitarian about this kinda stuff, and I'd rather have a guitar with changed tuners that work as opposed to one with original tuners that don't.

I too prefer having functionnal guitars... I use/abuse my only vintage in gigs a lot.

I just meant that I could never, personnaly, resolve myself to put a drill through a 40 year old Fender neck... You see, it's more a matter of self confidence (or lack of..)...

oh they do (my '72 tele still has the originals on, and they work fine) but Corona's didn't...


besides, EVERYONE knows that F tuners don't have enough M@J@....

I know his didn't work, but they do make F tuners replacements, right?..

...so I guess you're right, it does come down do a matter of functionnality vs. originality.

this is true, i suppose they would have been better replacements.

No they just fit right in the old holes,just the  screws is all the drilling...and its minor.I used a 1.5mm bit with tape around it at the right depth so i didn't slip and drill through the whole thing.i was a bit worried about this actually!

but I personally could never drill new holes in a vintage neck.

I was fine doing it,I've also  i changed the pots.one pickup, the pickgaurd and pup covers so once i have it set up how i like it it's really pointless for me to try keep it original as i  need these changes.(well the electronics anyway) i swap aesthetic parts all the time too.

But........ a jazzmaster is the only guitar i don't need to modify,not because it's a JZ but because i love the stock sound and have no need to change it,i do like a tom on 'em though.
