FACGCE tuning
What an odd tuning. I just started playing around with it. I'm thinking that this is the kind of tuning that Kinsella bands and bands that sound like them (American Football, Cap'n Jazz, Algernon Cadwallader, etc) use. It sounds like it would be.
Anyone have any tips on using this? I've only found a few basic chord shapes. So far I think it's suited towards droning strings with little sliding passages on one string and add9 and other 'twinkly' chords (which is where I get the Kinsella impression from). Though I could be totally wrong and it might be way better for something different.

yes! i've always called it 'american football tuning' since that's who i stole it from. i don't really have any tips though, ill just throw my hollowbody into that tuning for a week or so and just mess around aimlessly
ps - algernon cadwallader should be mentioned on OSG more often!

Re: FACGCE tuning
I just found out Central Connecticut is full of bands in this style and for a while have been wondering how they do it. I'm going to plug a band that I'm friends with now because they've got a similar style: http://www.myspace.com/myhearttojoy
I played with Algernon Cadwallader at UConn, and I think they're coming back to play with my friends in Wallingford next month, so I'm probably going to head out to see them. Great band, nice guys.

Did you use something similar in Tin Kitchen? I somewhat remember your guitarist using some sort of what I considered to be an open tuning and using a capo a lot. I'm not quite sure though.sonik wrote: yes! i've always called it 'american football tuning' since that's who i stole it from. i don't really have any tips though, ill just throw my hollowbody into that tuning for a week or so and just mess around aimlessly

Re: FACGCE tuning
I'm diggin this thread back up because I just threw my Jag Bari into this tuning and it's the shit! Tuning up to F also fixed my floppy low E problem. For the record, Lindsay uses FCCGCE in our new band and used it in Tin Kitchen too...just one string different.

And now I'll bump this because I just saw Algernon last night. It was pretty amazing.

Re: FACGCE tuning
I was spying on the guitarist's tuning pedal when I could catch a peak (I managed to get right in front of the bassist/singer and had to fight to keep my spot). He had some strings tuned to C, and I think he changed his tuning a couple of times.panoramic wrote:I am laughing at this, I can play all of those songs in standardInsertNameHere wrote: And now I'll bump this because I just saw Algernon last night. I'd love to learn how to try to play their songs, but I suck way too much at guitar to do the stuff he does.
